Carnivāle - Season 1 DVD set

I did a search but didnt see any thread of people talking about the DVD when it was released. Anyone get this set, what are your thoughts?

I bought the DVDs BRAND NEW last night for $44.99. I couldnt beleive how much I found it for, still sealed with the HBO stickers on it and everything. I couldnt pass it up and its a damn nice set.

The packaging is a bit flimsy and fragile, but I guess its good I take care of my shit cuase it should hold up nicely. I really like the simple, colorful menus and the descriptions, previously on stuff and everything.

The audio is excellent and during the finale when the thunder struck, my damn house shook. The picture is also beautiful and it looks really good. Probably better than any other HBO set I own.

I am in awe over this set and I hope Deadwood is the same way.

I'm thinking about getting them, but a price like that would make my mind up pretty quick. Where did you get them?

Yeah, it's only the ridiculously high price that HBO have slapped on this that is stopping me from picking it up. Why they see fit to charge so much for 12 episodes is beyond me

It's a great show, but won't be to everybody's tastes because it's intentionally slow-moving and requires a lot of attention from the viewer, mainly because it doesn't lay out everything on a plate. It's nothing like the other shows you've listed there. For me, it's the closest thing I've seen to Twin Peaks since, well, Twin Peaks, so if you like that (and Lynch-type stuff in general), then there's a good chance you'll like this.

I got this set at a small local used DVD/CD store. The stuff they sell ranges from really good to really bad. For instance, finding Carnivale still in original wrapper for a cheap price was awesome, but the same store had Curb your Enthusiam for $16.99 but torn up (like the individual cardboards holding the hubs completely torn out of the packaging) and totally abused.

I think the show is very good and might be a safe blind buy. I NEVER blind buy season sets myself, but if you like History than its damn good. Unlike Sopranos or other shows, about 2 people are murdered in this series.

Oddly enough, I DONT like Lynch films or have ever even seen an episode of Twin Peaks.

You're joking...if these have the original boxes and aren't in completely beat up shape, I would totally jump on this. Any chance you could pick me up a set and I could pay you plus shipping and $15 extra or so?

I got it from my mom for Christmas. I really wanted it, but couldn't justify the money I would have to drop. She didn't know what to get me, so this seemed like a perfect fit.

I haven't watched it yet, but I'm hoping to get to it starting tonight. 2 eps a night up to the Season 2 premeire sounds about right to me.

I also got this for Christmas. I downloaded the first ep to see if it was my thing, and watched about 15 minutes of it, up until the part where
Spoiler:
the lady spews quarters in the church.
That was enough to get me hooked, and I immediately added it to my wishlist. My mom got it for me, and gave it to me about a week early when she came to visit, and the wife and I ended up watching the whole season in two days.

That doesn't surprise me. I agree that Carnivale is similar to Twin Peaks, but Lynch films are another whole bag. Twin Peaks isn't just Lynch...it was also created by Mark Frost, who understands how to write for a more mainstream audience (something that Lynch films have never found really).
