Around the World in 80 Days (1956) - This is one of my favorite movies and Warner's 2-disc SE was my most anticipated of the entire year.

However, I got to see a lot of movies for the first time, thankfully through DVD...

THX 1138 is my favorite "re-discovery." It's one of my favorites now.

Other favorites...

the 2nd Looney Tunes 4-disc set... over half of the cartoons are favorites. I also love the Tomorrowland and On the Front Lines volumes of Walt Disney Treasures.

In no particular order:

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Film Noir Collection
The Pink Panther Collection
Disney's Tomorrowland
Disney's On the Front Lines
Mon Oncle (missed it the first time around)
THX-1138
Videodrome
La Dolce Vita
The Party
The Errand Boy
The Peter Sellers Collection
LOTR-ROTK EE
The Big Clock
Experiment in Terror
After Hours
Eyes Without a Face
Betty Blue-Director's Cut
L'Appartement - Region 2 (Blows Wicker Park away ... far away .. although Wicker Park is not a tragic remake).

And last and perhaps under the radar for many ...

Paris, Texas

Available for just over 7 bucks from DeepdiscountDVD (currently out of stock) or 9 bucks at Amazon. Has Wim Wenders Commentary track, 23 minutes of anamorphic deleted scenes (with optional director's commentary) and available for three times less than the European version. For a DVD comparison:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCom...aris-texas.htm

If you really like the film, this becomes truly a no-brainer.

Here's a summary of my most memorable purchases of 2004:

Star Trek: Voyager Seasons 1-7 - Janeway and her crew are now in my quadrant of space

Futurama 3 & 4 - to finish my set of this imaginative science fiction cartoon series

Clifford - I've been waiting for this Martin Short comedy to come to DVD for years

Starcrash - widescreen region 2 France release of this 1980's cheesy Italian science fiction film (with Caroline Munro, David Hasselhoff and Marjoe Gortner!)

Peter Pan - the best childrens' movie of 2003 has a great DVD release

Walt Disney Treasures: Donald Duck volume 1 - he's the Disney character who comes closest to the Looney Tunes mentality

Dungeons & Dragons - the complete 1980's cartoon series on region 2 DVD

SCTV volumes 1 & 2 - the arrival of this great Canadian comedy series onto DVD

Spider-Man - the complete 1967 cartoon series from my childhood on six discs

My Name is Nobody - great comedy Sergio Leone spaghetti western with a great region 2 transfer

Witchboard - spooky 80's Canadian occult horror film finally arrives on DVD

THX-1138, Star Wars, Ewok Movies - it's about time, Mr. Lucas !

Ren & Stimpy Show: Season 1 - grrrreat and gross cat and dog cartoons

Dawn of the Dead 2004 - the best horror film since House of 1,000 Corpses

Frosty's Winter Wonderland - the true Frosty sequel!

Doctor Who: Lost in Time - a collection of rare orphaned Doctor Who episodes

The Tomorrow People: seasons 6-8 - the classic 1970's British childrens' science fiction series is finally completed on DVD

Pee-wee's Playhouse Seasons 1-5 - the best live-action Saturday Morning Kids show ever! Add to that the Christmas Special

Pet Shop Boys: Performance - their famous 1991 concert/stage show finally makes it to DVD
