I bought a major release on VHS

I just bought Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Extended Edition on VHS. It was half the price of the dvd and it was in Widescreen so I figured what the heck. Am I nuts? Anyone else done something like this?

neatMCsammer 12-30-04 08:49 AM

Yes. Yes you are. Nuts, that is.

Class316 12-30-04 08:59 AM

Well, my mother does, but she turns 83 in a week, so I can make an exception for her... :)

TomOpus 12-30-04 09:02 AM

Don't take this the wrong way... but I don't believe you. Running out of thread subjects?

reverie 12-30-04 09:11 AM

Where do you even buy such a thing these days? Antique shops perhaps?

The Cow 12-30-04 09:35 AM

I call bullshit.

QuiGonJosh 12-30-04 09:44 AM

Yeah, but you bought the DVD right? RIGHT? RIGHT?

squaresoft7 12-30-04 09:47 AM

i guess if it was pv'd somewhere for like 5 bucks and i was desperate, but this is the "DVD" talk forum, i'm surprised somebody hasnt totally wished you ill will so far, maybe it's the holiday spirit. Anyway, at least it was LOTR and not something like harold and kumar.

OldBoy 12-30-04 09:48 AM

this guy isn't banned yet?

mikewendt 12-30-04 10:15 AM

Were they all sold out of the betamax version?

taktheride 12-30-04 11:10 AM

I've never done anything like this. Doubt I ever will. Thats pretty wild! My only question is this, how does it look on the 60" plasma?

Simpson Purist 12-30-04 11:11 AM

The only acceptable VHS purchase these days are the original versions of the Star Wars Trilogy (from Ebay).

obscurelabel 12-30-04 11:11 AM

What is this "Vee Aich Ess" of which you speak?

Seriously, I can see getting VHS on a title if it's not available on DVD and you have to have it (e.g. something like original Star Wars, etc.), but to me the VHS would be worth much less than half of the price of the DVD if available. I don't think I could stand that I couldn't jump to a favorite scene, no commentaries, subtitles, audio options, easter eggs, etc. Not to mention that the picture quality should be much, much, MUCH better than VHS unless the DVD is a mis-mastered disaster.

How many tapes was this anyway? :jawdrop:

Green Jello 12-30-04 11:30 AM

Put me down for a BULLSHIT vote.

Fok 12-30-04 11:32 AM

Why!?

Brain Stew 12-30-04 11:34 AM

That's cool, I bought a hat.

rennervision 12-30-04 11:37 AM

Dalvin? Is that you? :hscratch:

natevines 12-30-04 11:43 AM

That's ridiculous! I sold my VHS years ago, and advise you to do the same.
BAN HIM

FantasticVSDoom 12-30-04 11:45 AM

Put me down as calling bullshit as well...I think the coffee talk guy just likes to post once and see reactions to what he posts.

No. If the DVD version is too expensive, I either pass altogether or wait for the next DDD 20%-off sale.

MJKTool 12-30-04 12:38 PM

Can I borrow it when your done?
