They were out at Target and Fred Meyer, but I found a copy at Wal Mart for about $15.50. My brother really wants this for X-Mas, so now he'll be happy. I really wanted the Vote for Pedro T-Shirt from Fred Meyer, too.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I was watching it. I didn't really think it worked very well as a film, not that it was a bad, but it didn't feel like a complete movie.

Quirky characters, a good environment, but not much of a story. This could be translated to TV very well.

shawagg 12-23-04 11:30 PM

I don't get it.

I saw this in the theater and it just seemed like the dumbest thing in the world to me.

Elpresidentepez 12-23-04 11:55 PM

I'm convinced this movie was created for annoying people to quote. I go to school in Montana and i know several people from Idaho...they all tell me that Preston is exactly like that. This knowledge stops my enjoyment of this movie.

I doubt that the film had actually netted a profit before now, though. I distinctly recall relatively disappointing numbers for quite a while on the film, even with modest advertising. Then the marketing machine kicked into full gear: this movie's marketing blitz made me hate the thought of it. Unless someone cut Fox a deal on foolish-looking movies, marketing costs must have been well above average (and the $10 million reported on box office mojo).

Yeah, seriously. I haven't meet a single person who isn't in high school that actually enjoyed this drivel.

Cameron 12-24-04 02:00 AM

entertainment weekly said it made 46 million and cost under 400 thousand to make.

the one with Lindsey Lohan on the cover...2weeks ago?

Jackskeleton 12-24-04 02:29 AM

It's a movie that you either love or hate. No middle ground to it other than that.

freudguy 12-24-04 07:41 AM

I read some Yahoo! entertainment news that 60% of the stock sent to stores was sold on Tuesday alone and that the studio was working on getting more to stores before Christmas.

Got mine at Best Buy, blind buy.

Willh51 12-24-04 09:06 AM

Mine came from Blockbuster Online on Wednesday, brand new disc obviously, can't wait to watch it. I may buy it later if its good.

I would like to say I'm in the middle ground on this one, just to be difficult.

milo bloom 12-24-04 11:52 AM

Wasn't really looking for it, but I noticed Best Buy's display was empty. Pretty impressive, I'll have to grab a copy down the road.

RockyMtnBri 12-24-04 12:46 PM

Yep, I had no luck (Circuit City, Hastings, Best Buy, Target) so I ordered it. I've got company for the holidays and I'm sick so I didn't feel like going on a manhunt.

Budget = 400k, maybe. But the studio spent a whole lot of money to clean it up, music up the soundtrack, and advertise it.

Everyone clings on to the 400K number because it sounds so good. But that was hardly the final cost.

Cameron 12-24-04 10:39 PM

you may be right....i had heard originally it was under 200 thousand, then with all the advertising it was raised to 400 grand.....either way even if they spent five millian on promotion thats still 40 million bucks

Me too. I saw the movie on DVD a while back (a friend had a screener) and I thought it was fine -- had a few funny moments, but wasn't something I'd purchase or watch again. Maybe, at 31, I'm too old and have already seen too many similar movies to get that into it. Either way, I neither love it nor hate it.

Hey, I liked the film and I am in college. ;)

But I will say that I discovered the film months prior to the theatrical release. I saw the flick before it was even released. I saw it three times prior to it's theatrical release (for free) and an additional time when the "new ending" was tacked on. I knew all about it before the trendy and scenester fucks in high school found out about it. :)

Tarantino 12-25-04 03:33 PM

Lucky me, I work at Best Buy and put mine aside. It was sold out the first day, we had over a hundred. Right now we have 462 on order.

Napoleon Dynamite Continues Hot Streak on DVD

It was one of the hottest art-house movies of 2004, and geek-power film "Napoleon Dynamite" appears even hotter on DVD, selling 1.4 million units in its first day in stores, a Fox Home Entertainment spokesman said on Thursday.

With an average street price around $20 per DVD, the retail sales equate to roughly $28 million -- more than half the film's $44 million domestic box office.

victant 12-25-04 11:21 PM

This was such a great blind buy!!

I was able to snag this at Walmart for $13.88 this past Tuesday when I went home early "sick". ;)

It's great to see the DVD sales on this skyrocketing!

nightmaster 12-27-04 08:36 PM

I didn't at ALL expect to like it, but my son wanted it for Christmas so it's in the player right now. Grows on you, I think :).

TNAJason 12-27-04 09:02 PM

I had my ND pre-ordered. I need to watch it,damn it. Maybe after RAW..... It was sold out at Suncoast,FYE,and Best Buy,but Wal-Mart was OVERstocked with them.

Oh and on the SOTD note Shaun(whitch I also p-oed)sold out at my local Wal-Mart,Best Buy,FYE,and Suncoast. Lucky me that I pre-ordered my copy.....

tsl141 12-27-04 11:21 PM

I'm definantly going to have to rent this one. It never really intrested me to see it, but with it being sold out all over the nation it makes me ponder about the movie. At first thought it seems as if it would just be the X-mas rush that helped it out, yet there are no reports of King Arthur being like this. Also when I picked up Shaun of the Dead at my local Wal-Mart there was only one stack (maybe 10 copies if that) total that they had displayed out. It wasn't sold out, that was it for what they were selling.

Cameron 12-27-04 11:26 PM

you ever take it off any sweet jumps

mikeporter 12-28-04 04:00 PM

ND was number 2 for the Most Rewatchable DVDs of 2004
