What DVDs have the best menus?

DISCLAIMER: Let me just say this is for kicks... no gambeling!

So after reading about the menus for Harold and Kumar on the front page written by our very own DVDTalk founder, I got to thinking. The DVD menu doesn't get much respect. Of course part of that could be that like sound editing we don't notice it or think of it much or maybe we've grown to ignore them after the studios tried to trump them as "special features", but think some of them-- the ones that have been done very well-- deserve their time in the sun.

So, what DVD Menu is your favorite?

--Personally I like the "American Spleandor" one. Simple and elegant and the loop is so seamless. You can tell some real care and planning went in to crafting that one. Plus it shows a real understanding and respect for the subject.

The Panic Room 3 DVD Set is pretty impressive.

I think ALL the recent Bond films have very cool menus too.

There are certainly WAY more but that is enough from me. :)

I've always liked the menu for Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes". "Old School" unrated has to get a mention, too.

Just off the top of my head...

Van Wilder
Shaun Of The Dead
Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas: CC

Dalvin 12-22-04 09:53 PM

I personally Liked the "Love and Basketball" menus I thought they were very classy and well done.

Hey you're a good writer. Your little into was very well written.
Why thank you! :D

I 2nd that Fear and Loathing CC one. Mezmerizing.

As for the Van Wilder one... well mommy says you should say anything if you can't say something nice.

I really never pay attention to the menus. The presentation of the movie (video and audio wise) is far more important to me. The menus can be flashy, but how long do you spend looking at them?

Two that I've watched recently that really stood out as being nice were Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Love the menu on the Aliens:SE. The motion tracker. The audio & video feed from the corridors. It's perfect.
