Star Trek:Deep Space 9 "Asian collector's edition": are these for real?
I'd love to collect the Deep Space nine season box sets, but they're so damn expensive. I was looking on Amazon and saw these for sale.
Decriprions include: "Original English sound track. Plays only in English.this is brand new sealed item. Asian Collectors edition All seven seasons"; "official overseas release..Region 1..NTSC.. English..Same content as U.S. release..some oriental writing.. quality great".
Has anyone seen this release? Is it an official release and not a bootleg (I don't want bootlegs)? How's the quality compared to the US release? Any other thoughts?

Bando, every person I've seen who has purchased either this set or the Next Gen Asian collector's sets has had nothing but problems. These sets are either boots or very poorly rendered. The quality of the video and audio are awful and they tend to not play or skip in places. This is all 3rdparty info but for what it's worth, I'd stay away from them my friend.

An "official overseas release" of a U.S. TV series is hardly likely to be Region 1 - that would be defeating the purpose of the region system.
Also I love the idea of "oriental writing" - guess these doofusus think Chinese, Korean, Japanese etc. all look alike.

I agree with the above posters. I'd stay away, far away from these deals. Try Ebay and look for official US versions. I've bought 4 seasons of VOY on Ebay with zero problems. Gonna buy the remaining 3 seasons on Ebay when I get a chance. Probably gonna try for Season 5 in January.
