What is the OAR of Stagecoach?
 

I tried to search for reviews of either Stagecoach or the John Wayne Signature Collection and didn't come up with anything, so I decided to ask you guys for help.

I purchased the John Wayne Signature Collection yesterday for $20, so it was a good deal (eventhough I know that there will be better versions for most of the films in the coming years.)

My question is about Stagecoach. Does anyone know what the OAR is? It was made in 1939, so I'm thinking that it's probably "Academy Standard" at 1.37:1, but on the packaging for the DVD it says "Standard Version: This film altered from it's original version, it has been formatted to fit your screen." or whatever the exact wording is. Was is simply re-formatted from 1.37:1 to 1.33:1? or is it a true P&S hack job?

It's 1.37:1 (or 1.33:1 in this day and age) and the wording is like that on many of the older WB DVDs. It's just bad wording, not a pan & scan transfer.

Stagecoach is an older Warner DVD and they put the wrong AR disclaimer on the case.

The original Strangers on a Train DVD also had the P&S warning, despite it being an Academy Ratio film.

Just remember... if it was made before 1954 and it's 1.33:1, it's 99% likely it's OAR.
