The Incredibles

DVDAnswers has reported the DVD release for April of 2005

Here is the link of the article plus the cover shot. I loved the movie but I'm not impressed with the DVD cover. Hopefully Pixar/Disney will use the Theatrical poster.

The packaging doesn't really bother me. It's not that bad. And as long as the DVD has the movie on it with great quality and sound, I could care less.

TomOpus 12-11-04 07:14 AM

I kinda like the cover. It all revolves around dad :) But hell..they could have a plain red cover ("It couldn't be any more RED") and I'd still buy it.

I'm really really REALLY looking forward to this set.

candyrocket786 12-11-04 07:53 AM

I wonder if this one will include DTS? If not, I guess I'm going to have to look overseas.

Pixar movies have never been released with a DTS track (at least in R1). I've always thought their DD soundtracks were fine and never missed having a DTS track. But that's just me :)

I know...

Since this is more of an action film, I'm hoping they'll make an exception.

If not, then Japan or Korean should come through with one.

Well, if they made an exception, I sure wouldn't complain. :)

rexinnih 12-11-04 12:19 PM

Looking forward to this release. And DTS would be icing on the cake. Even if R1 doesn't have it there's hope for other regions. Just hope the DTS track is in English!

fumanstan 12-11-04 12:28 PM

Looks good. I'm undecided as to whether seperate Widescreen and Fullscreen versions is a good thing, versus including both in one package like other Pixar movies.

Duder 12-11-04 01:43 PM

Having separate WS and FS versions is an excellent thing, because it means there's no wasted disc space for the majority of us who want only one format and not both. I've never cared for the WS & FS trend--if they're on the same disc, it kills picture quality; if it's a dual-sided disc, it's more easily damaged and it looks cheap; if they put them on separate discs in the same package, that's a lot less space for extras; and, finally, if they package them together, then the studio has no way of knowing what the consumer's preference is between the two formats.

Yes, that's an odd thing with separate releases. Maybe it was a mistake by the marketing department?

Jackskeleton 12-11-04 01:55 PM

who cares about the cover, I can't wait to own it. :)

Dazed 12-11-04 03:09 PM

My fav Pixar film since Toy Story. Cant wait to own it.

Artman 12-11-04 03:44 PM

Hope they change the cover art, but looking forward to this release.

Does Pixar re-format every movie they do for FS or was that just for Bug's Life?

jmj713 12-11-04 07:39 PM

It's supposed to be out for Easter, and The Digital Bits a few weeks ago have posted a rumored date of March 15.

I think Bug's Life was the only one, but its ratio was also 2.35 (all the others have been 1.85), but since The Incredibles is 2.35 as well, it may be reformatted.

Judremy 12-12-04 12:00 AM

I think part of the reason for the split was mentioned that rental places were splitting the copies and renting out the full screen & widescreen discs separately and making more money off Disney/Pixar with Little Nemo. At least that might be part of it.

Michael Corvin 12-12-04 12:01 AM

I thought they did Toy Story 2 like A Bug's Life as well.

FantasticVSDoom 12-12-04 12:19 AM

Woo hoo...This will be one of my most anticipated releases for next year. Cant wait to get this one!!

Dabaomb 12-12-04 12:55 AM

nice, I can't wait

MorE808 12-12-04 01:30 AM

lame cover art...i just saw this tonight, was hoping the dvd art would reflect the nice closing credits sequence...oh well

calhoun07 12-12-04 01:33 AM

And yet the cover just may be a card board slip case that goes over the keep case. Hopefully the keep case will be closer to the theatrical poster art.

But if anybody wants to do a custom cover based on the awesome graphics from the credits roll, keep us informed!

wolverine1028 12-12-04 03:40 AM

Can't wait. This will be a great addition to any collection.

eau 12-12-04 04:18 AM

I can't wait. Pixar rocks!

The artwork on the Finding Nemo keepcase is exactly the same as its slipcover, unfortunately.

I believe you put the DVD in the player to play the Movie not the cover art, that is just eye candy.. Regardless, can't wait 'till they release this DVD

Kris81 12-12-04 11:15 AM

I think there's a possibility it'll be released sooner than that.. a screener copy has already "leaked" online.. when that happens they usually release much sooner!

Libby 12-12-04 01:58 PM

I really like the packaging and Im sure the extras wont dissapoint!

Nosebleed 12-12-04 02:31 PM

The DVD was sent out to academy members for Oscar consideration, not a rental screener.

Starting with ABL, they're done them all that way. However, I don't know if they've reformatted the Toy Story movies or not, as I'm not aware of any fullscreen DVDs of those two. They could have done it for VHS though.

Yeah, I am sure that ad execs and designers use that logic as well. As if nobody is affected by the packaging of something.
-rolleyes-

I mean, this is why DVD studios experiment with different types of packaging. It may generate some blind sales, and it also may help the DVD to jump off the shelf easier when customers are browsing a wall of DVDs that all blend in with one another.

fumanstan 12-12-04 06:14 PM

I don't really see anything bad about the cover... it's about the same as the covers on all the Pixar films. A plain shot featuring the characters. I'm happy with that :)

calhoun07 12-12-04 06:26 PM

I don't think there is anything wrong with it either. But for a collector's edition, it would be nice to have something more eye catching.

Exactly. Just because online sites have dvd rips of movies this time of year doesn't mean the dvd is coming anytime sooner as it's just an awards screener.

rafaeljose 12-12-04 07:54 PM

One of this year's best movies. I definitely going to pre-order this release. Pixar has deliver its share of high quality DVDs with great extras.

steebo777 12-12-04 09:34 PM

Sweetness.

Both Toy Story films have been reformatted for full-frame as well. One of the reasons that the Ultimate Toybox took so long to come out was that Pixar had to go back and re-render a number of shots to include extra information at the top and bottom of the frame. From A Bug's Life onward (including Toy Story 2), they do this extra rendering while the movie is still in production, but for the first Toy Story they had to do it retroactively.

milo bloom 12-13-04 09:15 AM

And it's probably a good idea to remember, just because it's re-rendered, doesn't make it "better" or "OK", just "less chopped". My sig says it all.

Big Worms 12-13-04 11:26 AM

Nice! Can't wait!
