DVDProfiler 2.3!

It's finally done! Some very nice features have been added.

Rammsteinfan 12-10-04 10:07 PM

Nice. Checking out. Thanks for the heads up.

Now that I see a " Hide Updates For Locked Profiles/Images " option I'm pretty happy.
Gotta look it over a bit more to see the other tweaks.

Altimus Prime 12-10-04 10:58 PM

If I update, will all the information I've entered about my DVDs - such as purchase date, price, place, notes - be kept, or is there a risk of losing it?

Just do a backup from the current DVD Profiler. Than open up the new version and do a restore. That will preserve everything.

It's all saved... though, I'm not positive about any user entered Notes.

Just make sure you do a back-up before installing the upgrade.

mookiemeister 12-10-04 11:41 PM

How does one use the new tag feature?

raytrade 12-11-04 12:20 AM

Best bet to answer any questions related to the new version is through the DVDProfiler forums at: http://www.intervocative.com/Forums.aspx

TheKing 12-11-04 01:14 AM

2.3 will convert all your 2.2 information just fine. But you should always do a backup as a precaution in case something does go wrong.

As for tags, there's a tags tab in 2.3, if you click on that, you can create tags from there. Then once you set tags, you use the filters tab to fiter titles by tag.

onebyone 12-11-04 04:23 AM

I hope this means they are going to start updating the database because darn they are behind.

Bitching aside, thanks for the heads up. I am heading over to update right now.

DanishDVDfreak 12-11-04 05:24 AM

I have used the beta releases for a while, and Im very happy with the final version...What I dont like is the hours and hours its gonna take me to enter crew information...but thats not the programs fault though...its a great program that every DVD collector should buy

They are planning to start updates 5 or so days after the release. So somewhere around midweek I would expect.

Thunderball 12-11-04 09:04 AM

Thanks for the info.

I finally registered my copy since I use it so often, I figured I coudl give them some sort of kickback

Michael Corvin 12-11-04 09:05 AM

Yeah, really -- I LOVED this program on the PC and then I switched to a Mac and now the DVD's just come and go as they please and I don't have any idea what's going on!

Anyone know of a relatively good Mac replacement for this program??

Draven99 12-11-04 10:32 AM

I've heard of people running it on a Mac under a windows emulator.....

cajun_junky 12-11-04 03:58 PM

Downloaded and installed over the previous version and all is working great thus far!!

Shagrath 12-11-04 05:18 PM

Supposedly there's a way to flag a movie as "Watched" or "Unwatched". The only way I see to do this is make an account for myself, and say that that user watched it. Is there an easier way?

Delicious Library is a nice alternative for the Mac although the program may be a bit more Amazon-centric (it performs lookups through Amazon's site) than some people like.

68ShelbyGT500KR 12-11-04 06:46 PM

Thanks for the update. Installed and converted from the previous version with no problems, though I did back up the database, reports and skins first

I'm looking at this one -- looks OK and does more than DVDs. Thanks for the tip! :)

This would actually be a helpful feature, as I've just been adding "Watched" in the notes sections of DVD Profiler 2.1. I'll probably update soon, was just worried about losing some info. Creating back-ups is not my specialty. If the new version allows for this "Watched" feature, I'll be more than happy to upgrade immediately. Anyone have any info on this?

That's good to hear. Now I can just be excited about the new release, because it is really quite good and much faster than it used to be.

Yep. Tried this one out, but I think the $40 is a bit steep for a catalog program. The integration with iSight is pretty sweet. Hold the bar code up to the camera and it scans it and adds it to your library. I wonder if it works with cheaper model cameras.

Chem 12-12-04 03:24 AM

I hear DVDCache for the Mac is excellent.

Several people have expressed worry about losing data. It is so ridiculously simple in DVDProfiler to backup your data in TWO ways, why worry? First, simply click FILE, BACKUP PROFILES DATABASE. Tell it where you want the file, and BLAMO! it's done. Secondly, you can upload your database to their site by creating an account. Then simply download the database back to yourself. That's how I keep my database updated between home, laptop and work.

eisenreich 12-12-04 10:22 AM

Just switched over, entirely painless and thumbs up for the new version

raytrade 12-12-04 06:07 PM

The TAGS feature is one of the most useful, in my opinion. The possibilities for creating custom categories is now limitless. For all the people that have wished Profiler could handle such personalized categories as "Willing to Trade", "B&W", "DVD-Rs", or "out-of-print" can now just create those tags and flag the discs that go in those categories. This also works great for those who have wanted to add VCDs, Laserdiscs, or VHS into their collection. Just create custom tags for those media types, then manually add those titles by name. Of course don't contribute your custom non-DVD entries to the database. I am now in the process of adding the movies I have on non-DVD media to my collection this way. It'll save me a lot of mistaken double-buys on titles I already have on older media and also allow me to comprehensively see what I own duplicates of on different media so I can sell the old LD or VHS versions.

Altimus Prime 12-12-04 06:41 PM

I updated and don't think I lost any info. No problemo.

So one could create a Tag for watched/unwatched, correct? This would be very useful, as earlier posters have said.

Yes, I've created "Watched" "Unwatched" "Partial watched". You can then filter using Tags and print out the list. Pretty cool.

Shagrath 12-13-04 09:22 AM

Well, I went ahead and made an "Unwatched" tag, and flagged everything in my collection that I haven't seen, and it seems to work okay. So I guess this is the way I'll be doing it from now on. Only took me about 5 minutes to run through my collection and flag the extisting unwatched list.

Big Worms 12-13-04 11:10 AM

Boxset feature is really nice. You can add your boxset, than the individual disk. Then you can go to your main boxset and group the individual disks underneath this one. It than puts a +/- next to it.

shawagg 12-13-04 11:19 PM

Link please. I think I'll try this thing.

I've always used dvdaf, but then found this program about a week ago when I decided since I enjoy watching and collecting dvds, that I would sign up to a dvd forum and saw people talking about this program. I decided to give it a shot, found it was an excellent program, and registered it.

They've finally updated the database. But you have to upgrade to Ver. 2.3.1 Build 826 (just uploaded yesterday), or the database updates won't work.

Oh thanks a lot for the tip. I will go take care of this now.
