El Cid and others on DVD

Don't ask me why but three films I've been dying to hear about any upcoming DVD news are Anthony Mann's El Cid, Nick Ray's 55 Days at Peking and Paul Newman's dectective thriller Harper.

Does anybody have any news about when these films might possibly come out on DVD? I was told recently that Miramax was bringing out Peking and El Cid sometime next year since they own the films. I haven't seen anything about that. As for Harper (WB), nothing.

Does anybody know anything?

There is a Korean R3 release that has El Cid, 55 Days at Peking, and The Fall of the Roman Empire in a box set. I believe that Miramax owns the U.S. rights to El Cid and perhaps these other two Bronston films but not worldwide. Supposedly these are legitimate but I'm not sure, and I believe the quality ranges from acceptable to bad (on the sound anyway). There is at least one thread about this at the Home Theater Forum, search for "Bronston" and you should see more information.

I would buy El Cid in a heartbeat, I really enjoyed the couple of times I saw it on TBS, and that was P&S and chopped up with commercials.

I agree. El Cid has been on my wish list longer than anything else at this point.

Anchor Bay UK announced last April that included in their slate would be R2 releases of The Fall of the Roman Empire and El Cid; they've since made no further announcements.
