One expensive Tuesday

I usually only buy DVDs one at a time, here and there. Maybe that's why, going on two years, my "collection" is under 70.

But man, Dec. 14 is going to be a bank-buster day for me:

Top Gun
I, Robot
Quantum Leap S2
Star Trek TOS S3

I don't think I've ever seen that many DVDs I've wanted come out all on one day like that since I've had a player. The kicker is the prices are usually lowest the first week, so if I don't get 'em all then, I know I'll just pay more later.

Cardiac161 12-04-04 09:21 PM

For that same day, I'm also getting :

Top Gun
Collateral
LOTR: ROTK Extended Edition

That day is also going to be hard on my wallet but it would heaven for the Xmas holidays.

gutwrencher 12-04-04 09:27 PM

every week is a huge week. the library must eat a steady diet of fine releases! that day, new releases combined with back catalog....should net me around 9 dvds.

illennium 12-04-04 09:33 PM

There's nothing of any interest to me on the 14th, but the 7th is going to be crazy:

24 - Season Three
Buster Keaton Collection
Carnivale - the Complete First Season
Gargoyles - the Complete First Season [Special 10th Anniversary Edition]
The King Of Kings - Criterion Collection
M - Criterion Collection
Maria Full Of Grace
Wild At Heart

That's a great week for classic and independent cinema.

DVD Josh 12-04-04 09:35 PM

I personally would skip I. Robot. It's a pretty barebones release and is prime for a later special edition.

Artman 12-04-04 10:08 PM

Top Gun
Collateral
LOTR: ROTK Extended Edition

Same for me. Didn't put them on the Christmas List as I knew I wouldn't be able to wait. (well I could wait for Top Gun, but the BB bonus disc...)

:)

majorjoe23 12-04-04 10:10 PM

These kinds of things usually get folded into the official "What am I buying this week" threads. The 7th was going to be a big day for me, but they bumped back the Superman and Batman animated sets.

same here. I put Matix box set and 24: Season 3 on the Christmas list. I knew I couldn't wait to pick up ROTK as well as Quantum Leap, Seinfeld and the Disney tins. Which are all within weeks of each other.

I picked up the I, Robot(R3) last week.

thelwig14 12-04-04 11:24 PM

Also, the Rocky Anthology. I hope Fry's comes through in the clutch.

tommy28 12-05-04 04:24 AM

big money on tuesday morning for sure

starving dvder 12-05-04 05:29 AM

Not just the 14, but December 7 is going to be big as well. -eek-

mzupeman2 12-05-04 06:30 AM

That day I'm getting Collateral, ROTK EE, I Robot, and if I have any extra money, I want to get Godzilla Tokyo SOS, but it's Christmas coming up and all, I kinda need to save money so we'll see.

i am getting the same but i think this month will probably do me in, financially speaking of course..

top gun
collateral
matrix box set
LOTR: ROTK Extended Edition
rocky anothology
bourne supermacy
king aurther
manchurian candidate
resident evil 2

plus just getting the spiderman 2 superbit, oliver stone box set, terminal and starwars last week did not help...

OldBoy 12-05-04 01:55 PM

you know there will be a "What are you getting on 12/14?" thread as there is a 12/7 thread so why repost and why duplicate the same thread in advance?

illennium 12-05-04 02:09 PM

How is it possible to duplicate a thread in advance? This one came first, so maybe there just shouldn't be a "What are you buying..." thread for 12/14. Unless you're going to make the argument that one poster's thread is inherently privileged over another's on the same topic, which is questionable, people's negative reactions to this thread don't make sense.

But do we know when, or if, that will happen? I know the movie did well, but how likely is there to be another release? And what more could it have? I haven't looked up details on I, Robot, but I'm guessing there's got to be some features on it, and I don't see how the image/video quality could improve with a later release. I also really enjoyed this movie.

It would help to be able to drop a title from the 14th... but just when I think I can drop something like "Top Gun," I think what a classic it is, and how I guess this one is going to be remastered (right?).

As for this thread... I didn't intend it to take the place of the "what are you getting" thread. I've just known for a while that the 14th was going to be a costly day for me, a day to make tough decisions or spend like a drunken fool... I don't buy DVDs in the quantities some of the rest of you guys do. I wonder you you handle/afford it.

Yeah, but if I'm not interested in the extras right now, just a good a/v presentation, then this release is fine.

kurupt 12-05-04 03:43 PM

The 7th is one of my biggest weeks ever:

Matrix box, Gilmore Girls, Disney Treasures, and Wild At Heart...some for me, some for presents...

Only other movie I will be picking up will be the extended edition of Return of the King. Got in on the Coconuts deal for $18.00 shipped when they had it listed for 50% off retail. :)
