An American Tail Double feature 2/1/05 Widescreen PLEASE?
They announced this with other double features like land before time beethoven babe....I have not bought the first movie for lack of WS...this is my question, and a plee WS please
|
feel free to start crying now... these are still fullscreen
|
These films were animated at an aspect ratio of 1.33:1, according to Don Bluth, so the releases are OAR.

I have American Tail II on laserdisc in widescreen.

These were theatrical releases during the 80's', so the original aspect ratio must be 1.85.
|
Not if they were matted at the theater release too.
|
So this is similar to the Kubrick argument about what is OAR or not? I always thought OAR meant Theatrical aspect ratio, but I guess that would be TAR :P

So I am confused. Are these matted to widescreen? So the most information is in the 1.33:1 ratio. Kind of like the Pixar films? If that is the case then I will go ahead and pick them up as I have been waiting as well.

You're wrong tanman, all of Pixar's films have been composed for widescreen. They have been recomposing thier films for home video since the release of A Bug's Life.

Then why is it that the full screen discs show more picture than the widescreen versions?
|
And as usual with this kind of thing, no one has a definitive answer.
|
can you show your source joshua? Just want to see it in writing.

Although not the final word, The Digital Bits has a little info and some frame grabs from A Bug's Life.

Also pick up the Bug's Life 2-Disc set. They have a whole featurette on how they recomposed the film for Full Frame just for the home video release (they didn't want people missing anything so they shifted things around from it's OAR).

ok good link on the bugs life stuff...now back to the matter at hand...can anyone prove that an american tale was cropped for theatrical release??? Was there a WS laserdisc? Screenshots?
|

There was never a widescreen LD of An American Tail. Only An American Tale: Feivel Goes West.

I used to love those movies when I was a kid, so I'll more than likely pick this double feature up. I'd like to watch them again.
