I, too, have just built my own DVD racks. I passed up the Lowes and Home Depot for a cheaper local lumber yard that will do the cutting to your specifications. Made the measurements according to what would fit in my house where I want it, and had them cut us the stuff which came to about $90. Bought some screws, borrowed a power drill, and made two racks about 6 1/2 feet tall with 8 shelves apiece, each rack holding approximately 450 DVDs. Also bought some nice ebony stain to finish them off. I'm quite pleased.

I bought my DVD shelves at OfficeMax - They have some really nice ones that are usually $50, but they go on sale for $25 or $30 frequently. They often show them on sale in their sunday flyers.

The Sauder shelves that you can find at Big Lots and Suncoast work great for CDs too. There are a lot of notches for the shelf pegs so you can adjust them to any height you wish.

Try FYE -- I just got 2 322 CD/180 DVD shelves for $10 each by Northland Woodworks - normally $20+ each. Sometimes Microcenter will have them cheap -- missed out on the Sauder one (similiar to above) for $5...but got a different one for $5.

I bought four of the "Skara" shelves from Ikea. They're about 7 ft high, have seven shelves each, and look great. Trouble is, I just went back to buy a fifth one and found out that Ikea discontinued them. Anyone have any suggestions of where I can find one now (and, no, eBay hasn't had any listed)?

Anyone know of a rack that will hold 1000 DVDs? The largest I found was this: http://www.thejungles.com/mulwal15.html

This cost me half of what you would pay for that rack and it's currently holding 1216 dvd's:

Cisco that's one nice rack of shelves you got there!!! For any who are interested, I purcheased O'Sullivan cherry wood finish shelves and cabinets from OfficeMax and spent four hundred on two cabinets with glass doors and two bookshelves. They do very nicely and hold the bulk of my 1600+ DVD's. They require assembly but can be put up @ about 45 minutes per unit.

Is that a self-made one? That won't do for me, cause I'm crap at making things. Now a case that would hold 1000+ DVDs and have glass doors, now that would be ideal!
