The only shot I can take at Fox is that they are slow (though not Paramount slow, mind you) about re-releasing some of their biggest titles in anamorphic. MGM scores a lot of points with me for their consistently low pricing structure. They're about the only studio where a 2-disc SE for $12 in the first week of release is not only a possibility, but a fact. On the other hand, their releases can be very wishy-washy: some are great, others have problems. Disney, Universal and Paramount don't rate very high with me (Paramount does consistently top-notch A/V though - I gotta give them that), but Sony still enjoys a comfortable lead in the 'suckiest studio for DVD' race. Keep up the good work Sony! All you need is another Spiderman DVD release and you might just seal the deal for good.

WB is one of the best studios. Them and Criterion are tops in my book.

I hate which ever studio has an OOP Dvd that I want.

I believe that as long as there is a demand for a movie and the medium which the movie is produced on is still popular, they should continue to release that movie.

WB is #1...No contest. Now that the snapper is dead, they leave all others in the dust.

Every other company..even the over-praised Criterion...can learn from them.

Worst company hands down is a tie between Laserlight and Madacy... I know they're cheap and but still they are horrible quality

Has everyone forgotten FOX? They release crappy releases of their biggest movies (recently) and screw us over when other countries have much better disks.

And Dreamworks (Collateral looks fine though) - lame extras and cheapy disks, what happened to good ones like their Gladiator and Road to Perdition.

Universal - better with good releases of Scarface, Dawn '04, etc.
Warner/New Line - Good
MGM - Good most of the time
Paramount - Good, cheap S.E.'s
Lions Gate - Alright
Sony - Good most of the time, double dips are stupid though

Columbia (now Sony?), for the crazy prices on catalog titles.
Universal, for all the technical problems they seem to have and for holding up the new DOUBLE INDEMNITY re-release. (Come ooooon!)

Much love for Warner, Criterion and Fox, they all did really good this year.

While I do agree that I don't necessarily hate any studio, the studio I like the least is probably Sony/Columbia Tri-Star, since they seem to be the worst when it comes to releasing titles fullscreen only (and I include the titles that used to be available in dual-sided versions but have had the widescreen side removed).

IMHO releasing a disc fullscreen only when it should be widescreen is the worst thing a studio can do when it comes to a title. They might as well not release it at all if that's what they're going to do. Sure, I get annoyed by multiple releases in a short time period, forced trailers, lousy packaging, and most of the other complaints mentioned in this thread. However, even with those you can still watch the movie as it was intended.

Almost all the major studios have put out fullscreen-only releases at one time or another, but Sony gets extra points deducted for the practice of removing the widescreen sides yet keeping the same UPC code. Furthermore, when they are use the old cover art (that indicates both versions) but the disc inside is fullscreen only, that is even worse.

Worst: Universal. No quality control and takes pride in having 'Franchise Collection' digi-paks. Their SEs stink, that is, when they release SEs. And I hate studios that release a movie and then drop the price 3 months later.

Sony is second for their incessant re-releases.

You guys are being too harsh on Warner Bros. Dudes, they got DVD going, were one of the first to support it. I even remember seeing it in a Batman episold back then. So the snapper didn't win in the end, gezz they were starting the format and created that box. Took a risk, it didn't pan out. Don't let that have you overlook thier milestone contributions.

20th century fox. yes I do buy their stuff but I just hate their need to put everything in a digipak layout no matter how many discs there are. Alien Quadrilogy comes to mind.

"Back to the Future" not only did they hint at putting this out on DVD for like eternity (4 years) but when they did they still ended up screwing the movies up.
