I really don't see how someone could fail to see the humor in Golden Girls. I've talked to a few people that said it sucked, only to then learn that they dislike it just because of the ages of the main characters.
sighs...Mama's Family. I love that show (except for the first season). Thank GOD it was cancelled and brought back with Bubba and the ever funny IOLA.

Even Betty and Rue, who after it was cancelled went straight into The Golden Girls, couldn't save it in the first season.

After that it was comedy gold. I want that on dvd too.

I just about pissed my pants on that one, not unlike the Golden Girls themselves.

I for one am glad she kept it hidden. There would be more bats flying out of that thing then the opening credits of Scooby Doo.

Who just pictured Bea Arthur lifting up her skirt, dropping her drawers, and having bats fly around, all to the theme... "Scooby Scooby Doo... where are you? we've got some work to do now!"

That is a fantastic skit, I loved it.

*goes off i search of that skit*
Post it here if you find it.

I remeber that skit.

A couple of the guys on SNL were dressed up as the four women and sitting around the kitchen table eating and doing other stuff as the women.

A news reporter said it was like torture to have it on 6 times a day or something like that.

Someone definitely needs to put that skit up here. Video is better.

That SNL skit should be an easter egg on one of these sets.

I don't know if I agree with the rating, but there is something about the series. I have no intentions of buying it, but if my mom or sister are watching it, I have no problem sitting with them. In fact, a few years ago it was on in a time slot during the day when nothing good was on as far as guy stuff and I watched it about everyday between classes in my dorm room. I find it funny and I bet lots of other people hold it in higher regard. I can not think of a time it was ever not in syndication.

I kind of lied, I did just buy it today, but as a gift for my sister who asked for it and only it as far as DVDs go for Christmas. I bet she would agree with the rating.

I personally love the show, but still disagree with the rating. It is obviously common knowledge that this is a DVD Review site, not a TV Show review site, and this reviewer obviously chose to give the SHOW the highest rating (which it may or may not deserve) despite the truly lackluster DVD Treatment (which the reviewer admits to in the review, citing a lack of extras and sub par video quality.

I think that the DVD Public, including myself, expects the review to grant a rating based on the DVD Treatment, not necessarily on the show itself.

The DVD package itself is not worthy of the DVDTCS rating, even if the show is itself outstanding. Like others have said, many superb films and shows have not gotten this rating based on the fact that the treatment was subpar, as really should have been the case here.

A lackluster treatment should never warrant a DVDTCS rating, in my opinion, but that is just me.

This is just great.

Seinfeld did indeed get a "Highly Recommended" rating.

As I've said in this thread, I LOVE Golden Girls, but lets get real now. Golden Girls is given the DVD Talk Collector Series yet Seinfeld doesn't even reach that level?

Uh huh, yeah...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Different reviewers, though, and what one reviewer thinks doesn't necessarily reflect how the rest of us would rate something. The "Collector's Series" rating for Golden Girls is baffling to me, and I'm personally of the opinion that we should be very stingy with those high ratings and reserve them for exceptional releases. There presently isn't any sort of firm policy related to Collector's Series ratings. If you would like to see more consistency in the ratings, I encourage you to post in the Feedback Forum, perhaps by contributing your thoughts to this thread by das Monkey.

Oh I don't really take this all that seriously. I just found it amusing that someone in this thread about the Golden Girls reviewer said it'd be funny if even Seinfeld didn't get that rating, and it ended up being true.

Still, when you really think about it, having a set that is basicly bare bones like Golden Girls get a higher rating than the first two seasons of Seinfeld, which has a great deal of great special features, it is a bit odd regardless of different reviewers.

Either way though, I really don't care all that much. It's just funny to me more than anything.

Let me ask you, Turd, why do you bother to waste your time discussing and bashing a show you obviously dislike? And please, enlighten me on your favourite shows...I'm sure they're great!
Be warned, "garlandtaylor" is the one who was pushing for both the Golden Girls and Martha Stewart on DVD.

Is it true that Bea Arthur wore a colostomy bag throughout most of the show's filming?

Also, how are we coming on Bea Arthur nudes?

Hehe. Trust me, knowing about this thread, I felt the irony deeply.

But yeah, Adam expressed exactly my thoughts on the CS rating: I'm rather baffled why Golden Girls got it, and I'm reallllllllly stingy with how I give it out. Personally, I think that "highly recommended" is a damn good rating - it's HIGHLY recommended, after all, and I'm not overly generous with that rating either. I sort of wrestled with my conscience a bit - part of me said "It's SEINFELD! It's gotta be Collector's Series!" but I have to leave myself a *little* bit of leeway for rating the later seasons, after all...

The Golden Girls set is very good. I marathoned it over the weekend and it was a grand time. I must say that I don't like having 2 dvds on one side of the packaging. That is umm, weird.

On the upside, it sure doesn't take up much shelf space.
