Lion King DVD going into the vault.
 

Not sure if this is old news or not, but apparently all the Lion King movies will be going into the Disney vault at the end of January 2005. So you better pick one up if you don't have one, or pick one up to sell on ebay next x-mas.

Those bastards. But alas this is to be expected. As Aladdin and Mulan will be going into the "Vault" as well.

But these two just came out last/this month, and they will be gone in 2.5 months?

Aladdin's sequels are both being released in January, so I don't think the original is going OOP just yet. Maybe next summer sometime.

What is the vault?

It's another name for ebay.

It's where a lot of Disney's DVDs end up a few months or up to a year after release; it's a figurative term (I would think) referring to the Disney titles going out of print, mainly. After the titles are off the market for some time, they become collector's items that wind up on eBay or in DVD exchange forums.

Is the typical pattern for the high-profile "Platinum Series" titles to be released in the late summer/early fall and then discontinued the January just over a year later?
