BTW I didn't even know there was an anamorphic edition of Yojimbo in R4. I'll hold out for the Criterion anyway.

Glad that I haven't picked up the Kurosawa collection yet (although already have Seven Samurai).

Any further news on anamophic Kurosawa films? I really want to pick them up, but not anamophic subtitled movies are really hard to watch on a 16x9 tv.

great another seven samurai... i have the already released one and i am very happy with it i don't know what they could improve it looks fantastic.

but of course i can't pass on another version if it is done well... one of the best films ever made.

they should make it one of the lower priced 20$ rather than that insane 28$ range since it is a rerelease.

Were does it say anything officiel about the new dvd?
The only thing I can find is that it got new subtitles for a limted film release.
But if there is anything official I would love to hear it. =)

Well, the transfer is only decent, it's non-anamorphic, and there are no extras save for a commentary. For an acknowledged classic, that's pretty skimpy. I see a lot of room for improvement.

Seven Samurai will also be non-anamorphic in the re-release...it's 1.33.

This looks it could be coming soonner than we think.

What I meant is that for future news on Kurosawa releases he should check Criterion's website since they have official information. You can also check www.criterionforum.org, where there are good discussions, rumors and information about Criterion releases, including Kurosawa's films. I remember also that the Criterion website announced back in April that they are releasing Kurosawa's Ran in the near future.

I'm not rebuying any of the Kurosawa films on dvd again. Considering the number of HD transfers Criterion has done already they will probably have a large library available in true HD as soon as they commit to a format(s).

If I didn't already have them I'd probably pick them up though.

Yeah, my bad, I was thinking of Yojimbo and Sanjuro, both of which also are in dire need of new editions.

That said, the picture quality of SS is still not that great, and I'd love to see much more involved extras.

There have also been rumors of a new edition of High and Low, which is another Kurosawa title that could absolutely benefit from a re-release.

But speaking of upcoming Criterion titles, have any been "discovered" for August yet? Hopefully Au Revoir Les Enfants will be released then, but what else?

Looking forward to that Wages of Fear re-release. I was close to finally buying it too, guess I'm waiting for the new goods.

Yes there was - months ago when it was posted here on this forum that Criterion had commissioned new subtitles.
