DrGerbil 04-11-05 01:11 AM

Looking forward to an anamorphic transfer and new extras! Glad I held off buying the R2.

D-Ball 04-11-05 01:28 AM

Thanks for the news. Now I'm feeling better about selling my old copy.

Josh-da-man 04-11-05 01:28 AM

First "American Psycho" and now "Audition."

Is the tide turning at Lion's Gate?

I have the slipcover and it is non-anamorphic. Incredibly annoying when you have subtitles.

cajun_junky 04-11-05 09:41 AM

I guess New transfer = anamorphic transfer??? I hope so!

Nice cover also

If they give us an uncut undubbed High Tension immediately on dvd. I will say yes. If not,I will say LG is the 'same old'(ie-excessive waiting for the uncut release..if ever) ;)

whynotsmile 04-11-05 03:20 PM

shit, i guess ill hold onto mine for a bit longer. or maybe i should jsut get rid of it. I didn't even care for the movie that much.

OldBoy 04-11-05 05:09 PM

i didn't care for the movie either...i dunno, maybe i missed something...

dx23 04-11-05 05:12 PM

Incredible, I just sold my copy for $120 on ebay last week and now there is a new version coming. Incredible!

Julie Walker 04-11-05 10:28 PM

Damn,DX....and just last night a friend and I were laughing at the prices on ebay and amazon for R1 copies of the film. The highest was $200,the 'lowest' was $120. We said no one in their right mind would pay that much for a dvd. I guess we were wrong:D

Haha...jokes on them though, they wasted an insane amount of money on an inferior dvd release!

Fangoria.com
Lions Gate Films’ director of marketing Chela Johnson shared with Fango the DVD art for the new special-edition DVD of Takashi Miike’s AUDITION, hitting shelves August 23, which we first reported on here. Johnson also confirmed that one of the extras on the disc will be the segment on Miike’s modern cult classic from Bravo’s 100 SCARIEST MOVIE MOMENTS. The disc, which also supplements the uncut, unrated movie with new artwork, additional scenes, an introduction by the director and an interview with screenwriter Ryu Murakami, will list for $19.98.

anybody found this one in stores

The Valeyard 08-24-05 02:02 PM

It was at the 2 Best Buys I went to yesterday (while looking for Superbit titles).

14 bucks.

Andrew

whynotsmile 08-24-05 02:47 PM

so uhhh i still have that old one...think i can still get some money for it somewhere

Richard Malloy 08-24-05 02:54 PM

Part with the old region 1 if you've still got it, but you might consider holding onto those R2/UK or German discs until some reviews shake out... early reports from a forum member suggests this may be a PAL-sourced transfer: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showpos...66&postcount=9

that was from me. if you have ever seen the office uk region 1 dvd, it kind of looks like that, picture wise with a not so smooth picture when ever the camera moves.

Oh well... R2 here I come. *removes R1 from want list... adds R2*

Julie Walker 08-24-05 04:45 PM

I picked this up last night. It didn't look too bad from what I saw. Also it has improved subtitles, and closed captions!

The only complaint I have for the dvd is the lack of trailers for the film itself! You only get many trailers for other Lions Gate Japanese horror,a few of their dvd releases and Waiting!

Now I am debating on whether to show it to a friend of mine who has terrible luck with women. And thinks excessively calling them hoping they answer will get them to notice and go out with him:D

But he has a very short attention span and will probably hate it. Since it won't be gory enough, and takes awhile for the disturbing stuff to reveal itself.

Rypro 525 08-24-05 05:00 PM

julie, do you have the original dvd (or have seen it) to see if the picture looked then? and did the 5.1 track sound a bit muffled sounding to you?

asianxcore 08-24-05 05:55 PM

completely forgot this was out. I think I am going to wait on some reviews before deciding whether or not to buy it. I already have the Ventura/Chimaira R1 disc.

cajun_junky 08-24-05 07:36 PM

I would love some more feedback on how this release compares to the prior version. I waited too late on the earlier version and when the price went thru the roof I couldn't justify the price.

Not that it matters but I pre-ordered it from CH and hopefully it will be here soon.

natevines 08-24-05 07:50 PM

The transfer isn't too great, but I can't compare it to the old version.
Anyway, pretty decent film. Kinda overrated though. It's all a build up to the last few minutes, which aren't that satisfying anyhow. Miike surely can come up with some bizarre shit.

Trigger 08-24-05 10:11 PM

someone let me know when dvdbeaver has a comparison up...

I have'nt seen the original dvd,but did see the film on the Sundance Channel. The dialogue was quiet for the most part. But I'm sure it was intended that way. Since it's a very quiet film, especially durring the first half.

With that in mind, the opening sequences(on the ocean, dinner at home) that I sampled. The audio came through loud and clear, even if the dialogue is soft spoken.

I'll see how it is in full whenever I get around to viewing the film again. I start school tomorrow and am working alot lately. So I'll have very little movie time.

Rypro 525 08-24-05 11:01 PM

Really liked the movie. sure its slow, but its all buildup.

Richard Malloy 08-25-05 09:24 AM

I would think that the new release should easily best the Ventura/Chimera non-anamorphic one, but I'd really like to know if it's better than the R2/PAL-UK release (or the German Rapid-Eye release, a disc I don't have but I understand is supposed to be as good as the UK one).

steebo777 08-25-05 09:30 AM

Watched this for the first time a few nights ago. Messed up flick. Just as I like my Takashi :D

Bleddyn Williams 08-25-05 12:34 PM

I picked this up. The coloring matches the R2 Tartan UK remaster if the Beaver's screenshots are anything to go by. I was able to find ghosting by using the still feature of my player, so I suspect it is a PAL to NTSC conversion of the same transfer as Tartan. Whether this will show itself in artefacts while watching the film normally I can't say yet.

This Lion's Gate version is cheap with good extras. I actually had the Tartan on my radar, but it never became cheap enough for me. However, if I find any unpleasant video side-effects while watching the Lion's Gate, I'll keep my eye open for the day I can pick up Tartan cheap!
