Welle's "It's All True" -11/30/04

I haven't seen anything posted here regarding this yet.

I'm very interested in checking this out. I've only seen a small amount of the footage from the Documentary on the Kane disc and read a bit about it in Welle's autobiography but it sound fascinating.

This has been available on VHS for years, but should look great on DVD. The black and white footage Welles shot was incredibly beautiful.

Hmmmm... I didn't realize that this was coming out. I have this on laserdisc.

It is strongly rumored that Criterion will be releasing

F For Fake
Confidential Report

In early 2005

I think F for Fake is actually confirmed. I'd personally like to get a copy of the original cut of Othello with the original soundtrack. I believe I'm going to have to look to other regions to get it though. I've heard rumors of a Spanish disk but haven't investigated.

Chente thanks for the update.

More Welles = very good news.

Criterion's Lee Kline mentioned in a HTF chat earlier this year that he thought (emphasize, thought) they were starting work on F for Fake soon. But as Janus has released that film and Confidential Report before, it stands to reason they'll release both on DVD. It boggles my mind that the oh so wonderful Criterion Collection has no Welles films yet.

Othello will probably never be legitimately released in its pre-"restoration" format, because Beatrice Welles owns the film completely and doesn't want any version but hers released.

And presumably Warners is working on towards a Magnificent Ambersons disc, but there has been no recent word about it.

If Beatrice doesn't want other versions released, it's probably because she wants to profit from the film. And doesn't want others to do so.

It's a shame that the pre-"restoration" Touch of Evil is not out on DVD.

Rosenblum has argued that none of these films - inlcuded T.O.E. are restored because Welles is not here to do. And in the case of T.O.E. he was making changed based on their cut of the film. Not his.
