Universal will release Surviving Christmas on 12/21
If it does, that is fast!

Seantn 11-11-04 04:05 PM

Wow....so Dreamworks hated releasing it theatrically so much that...uh...they gave it to Universal?

marty888 11-11-04 04:06 PM

The rush all the big box-office hits onto DVD ....

Oh .... wait .... uh .......

Never mind.

Universal distributes all of Dreamwork's films. You never noticed?

I wonder if they're finally starting to acknowledge how people are giving up on theaters altogether since too often they have a substandard presentation, and charge way too much on top of that.

Don't forget about the commercials in a movie you already paid ten bucks to see. But what I fail to understand is why put out fodder like Surviving Christmas in the first place? I guess they think people won't flock to see well-thought-out, well-written movies?

I was reading in a thread somewhere and everyone was making jokes about it coming to DVD before Christmas. I can't believe all of those jokes will become reality.

Jackskeleton 11-11-04 07:26 PM

HAHAHAHAHHAA oh man, I even made this very same comment in the discussion about the film.

Perhaps if they hurry they can get a dvd out for christmas.

Is this a new thing? My copy of The Ring is from DreamWorks, as are my copies of Chicken Run, The Prince of Egypt, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

It's kind of sad/funny that this movie is being released so quickly.

No, it isn't new. The DVDs you mentioned are DreamWorks, but they are distributed by Universal.

Am I the only one that actually liked this movie? I saw it in the theaters and thought it was very funny.

Dabaomb 11-12-04 01:18 AM

wow, 2 months from theatrical release to DVD release....that must be some type of record

I just saw it last Friday at the theaters. I think it could have been better, but I still enjoyed it. Definately one I'd add to my yearly Christmas viewing list.

Gotta be, but this is an exception: Since it's a Christmas title, it was either release it right away or wait another 10-11 months to put it out. While hits like Elf and The Grinch can still prosper after a year-long wait to DVD, maybe some exec at Universal thought this would be the only way to move some copies of a Christmas bomb?

Geofferson 11-12-04 10:01 AM

that is quick!

Agreed. I thought it was damn funny.

Even funnier? Most of the people who shit all over it (some critics included) didn't even see the film.

tripleeric1 11-12-04 10:54 AM

Holy cow!!!! I thought this was a joke until I just saw it up for preorder at Amazon! WOW!
I guess it's a last minute cash in to try to break even before everyone forgets about it next year....

Crazy.

DreamWorks has officially announced comedy Surviving Christmas which stars Ben Affleck, Christina Applegate and James Gandolfini. This Mike Mitchell directed film, will be available to own from the 21st December this year, and should retail at around $29.99. The disc will include both 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and 1.33:1 full screen presentations, along with English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Extra material is set to include a HBO First Look featurette, an alternate opening sequence, a storyboard gallery and more.

neatMCsammer 11-12-04 03:08 PM

I'm pretty sure that any DreamWorks comedy flop's DVD cover features something large on top of someone's body, like buried under a large present, or buried under a big pile of money (Envy). They're creative.

dcprules 11-12-04 04:01 PM

That was quick, but I still think I'll give it a rent (especially since it's coming out right before X-Mas, so I'll still be in a Christmas mood).

JoeyOhhhh 11-12-04 04:01 PM

Retailing for $29.99?

I'd pick this up if its under $10

yep, I thought it was a very funny movie. I you have to wonder if critics even have a sense of humor. I think it might have received better reviews had they released it around thanksgiving. I don't think to many people were ready for christmas prior to halloween..

in any case, I'll add it to my yearly christmas viewing..

Given their current release schedule, this should be getting a price drop around 2/21. Just hang in there. :)

CTUK 11-13-04 03:38 AM

That's a pretty poor attempt at a coverart. Did the designers PC only have Times New Roman installed??

Looking forward to picking this DVD up
