awesome

TomOpus 11-10-06 08:08 PM

Good news!

Drexl 11-10-06 08:11 PM

Maybe my theory was right about the Kubrick titles being among the 1080i HD titles that were pulled to do new masters. I think that the poor response to the stairstepping on the HD version of Full Metal Jacket caused them to go back and redo the other titles, since they would have the same issues that FMJ had.

animatedude 11-11-06 06:08 AM

LOL! that's not no news! saying that warner bros. is still working on this isn't a news.another reason to hate the fake ppl behind thedigitalbits.

Filmmaker 11-11-06 06:43 AM

The question still remains, is Warner Bros. sticking with its original plan to release S.E.s of only 2001, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, THE SHINING and EYES WIDE SHUT, or does this delay bode well for S.E.s of everything from LOLITA forward (sans Columbia's DR. STRANGELOVE, of course, which already has an S.E.)?

Cameron 11-11-06 01:30 PM

I would imagine at this point, there going to prep them all for release in one box set, as opposed to piece by piece like the original plan....it just makes sense. I would imagine we'll get all the titles from the old box set except strangelove

Not to mention the extended version or at least deleted scenes from Lolita that appeared on the VHS in 1999 or maybe 2001....

According to all information thus released from official sources, that is a 100% certainty, yes. I can't say one way or another on the LOLITA thing, though...

Takeshi357 11-12-06 11:24 AM

Not to mention I would really like to see the longer American version of The Shining.

89981 01-08-07 07:57 PM

Any new news on this? Will full metal jacket get a new treatment also?

Cameron 01-08-07 08:56 PM

no news yet...FMJ has a HD and blu-ray disc out that have a widescreen print...so that will be new to dvd...

It's based on the old (2001) master though. Hopefully they're remastering it along with the other titles.

Cameron 02-08-07 05:39 PM

seems amazon uk is taking preorders for clockwork orange r2 for the first of june. hopefully we will get new editions at the same time.

HTF chat is set up for later this month, and I assume this will be at the top of the order

Cameron 02-26-07 08:15 PM

warner chat is going well, but it seems they have no new info on the Kubrick set, other than to say we won't see it until the xmas season

Drexl 02-26-07 09:06 PM

When will the transcript be up and where at?

Cameron 02-26-07 09:09 PM

HTF and the bits will have it posted in the morning

Thanks for the info, Cam. Nothing on specific titles?

AnonomusBob15 02-27-07 10:38 AM

Just bought the Dr. Strangelove 2-Disc via Columbia, I hope it's not going to be included in a possible set revamped.

Also have 2001 and Eyes Wide Shut, but I wouldn't dump them just yet until specs and controversy clears regarding the aspect ratios.

Skoobooz 02-27-07 10:41 AM

What's wrong with the aspect ratio for 2001?

Cameron 02-27-07 08:29 PM

They were pretty tight lipped on the subject. It seems they were working on them to be released last year as individual titles, but I think they have opted to re-do the entire catalog for HD, and at the same time release new SD-DVD titles. They did make it clear that they want all extras across all formats. I have a feeling that Blade Runner will be this years Forbidden planet, and The kubrick films will be this years Superman set. I am confident that any time Warner holds a title back it is because they want to do the best job possible.

Drexl 02-27-07 08:38 PM

BTW, do we know yet which titles are coming? The ones that were rumored were The Shining, 2001, A Clockwork Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut. Do we know yet if they've decided to release the rest of them too?

Cameron 02-27-07 08:43 PM

nothing confirmed at this point. But again, it is my belief that the reason that those 4 were not made available last year was that they are revamping all of the warner owned Kubrick films for a box set.

sidewinder572 02-27-07 09:06 PM

Even though it's probably his least popular film Barry Lyndon needs to be included. The film would look stunning remastered and especially in HD

GreenVulture 02-27-07 09:16 PM

Says who? Lyndon is my favorite Kubrick movie after Dr. Strangelove.

indiephantom 02-27-07 09:48 PM

I hope whatever they do it includes all of the films from the previous release in new transfers. And yes, we NEED the uncut EYES WIDE SHUT in that package.

Well if so, let's hope they don't have another packaging fiasco like they did with the supes ultimate set.

Kubrick is my favorite director and 'Barry Lyndon' is easily my favorite Kubrick film...
It might be less often discussed, but it has plenty of fans.

eedoon 02-28-07 04:21 AM

^True. I don't even like Strangelove that much, but I loved Barry Lyndon.

jonjj7 02-28-07 09:06 AM

Yeah, Barry Lyndon is probably my second favorite (right after 2001). I really hope they release SEs of all the flicks.

Johnny Zhivago 02-28-07 11:40 AM

Yeah. :grunt:

Barry Lyndon isn't even his least popular <b>Warner</b> film...

Just get it right this time WB... Please.

That's weird; you bought the one ('Strangelove') that is known to not be Kubrick's preferred aspect ratio, but you think there's a controversy over '2001'? Are you holding out for the more accurate Cinerama transfer which requires three television sets set up in just the right way?

Hell, I thought the controversy over 'Eyes Wide Shut' and all of them was pretty much settled; there's a whole lot of proof that Kubrick composed for 1.85 but kept 1.33 safe because he hated pan-and-scanning more than he hated opening up the frame.

If you want to talk controversy, 'Lolita' has never been released on DVD in the aspect ratio of the transfer he approved, and I'd assume that, at this point, since they're pushing all of his stuff to 16x9, it never will.

I also own the regular Columbia Special Ediition. I got a fair deal in the Exchange Forum and wanted to check out the remastered picture. I plan on holding onto both.

Although 2001 was projected in Cinerama theaters, it was shot in standard 65mm, which only uses one camera and one projector.

Hey, how about the fact that a different cut of the film came out on some VHS tapes? I posted this last year but have still to get any clarification as to how this could be:

Anyway, before I owned Kubrick’s Lolita on DVD, I had rented it on VHS. I had an English class where I was doing a presentation on Vladimir Nabokov, who wrote the book and co-wrote the screenplay of the movie. I rented the movie again on VHS to show the famous hotel room scene to the class, highlighting the dialogue between Humbert and Lo. I cued up the tape and played it in class. I was surprised to notice the scene went on much longer than how I remembered it and had more dialogue in it (no, no skin or any such thing—just more talk). I knew it wasn’t my imagination because another student in the class asked me where I got the video because he never saw the scene extended like that. I was clueless and thought that it was because it was a newer version of the video (it was the reissued 2001 release with the white cover). When I finally bought it on DVD it was the same old version, I remembered before coming across this mysterious extended version, which I had long returned to the video store (unfortunately a Hollywood Video that has since liquidated its stock). I tried hunting down another VHS of this version and bought three different copies and came across the old familiar cut. This was a real fluke occurrence and not my imagination. I did a very lucid, sober presentation and I had a witness that noticed the same thing I did. We were focused on the dialogue in the scene, so it came as a clear surprise to us. Can anyone here shed light on the existence of two different cuts of this movie on VHS? As far as I know it does not exist on DVD. I’m sure someone here would have commented on this by now if it did.

Richard Malloy 03-02-07 02:58 PM

slowcloud, there's a UK cut described at IMDb (read following quote), but it also claims that this cut is the source of the R1 DVD transfer:

The scene where Lolita first "seduces" Humbert as he lies in the cot is a good 10 seconds longer in the British cut of the film. In the U.S. cut, the shot fades as she whispers the details of the "game" she played with Charlie at camp. In the U.K. print, the shot continues as Humbert mumbles that he's not familiar with the game. She then bends down again to whisper more details. Kubrick then cuts to a closer shot of Lolita's head as she says "Well, allrighty then" and then fades as she begins to descend to Humbert on the cot. The British cut of the film was used for the Region 1 DVD release.

Very early details:

Simpson Purist 07-25-07 01:49 PM

Third time's the charm I guess, though I find it kinda odd that they would ruin the ending of 2001 on the cover.

JackBurton 07-25-07 02:04 PM

Great, looking forward to further details.

Johnny Zhivago 07-25-07 02:14 PM

But...

Where is Barry Lyndon and Lolita?
