Barry Lyndon and Lolita are listed as coming out on the same day at $19.97 a pop. Don't appear to be part of the collection though

gryffinmaster 07-25-07 03:46 PM

You know, I might have to change my vote in the Other smilies thread. Nothing else can really sum up this guy's feelings on the new Kubrick sets, art and all, other than this:

I can finally toss my snappers!!!

The artwork for ACO and The Shining is PHENOMENAL.

I wonder, though, if the DVDs will retain ALL of the features from their original discs.

Groovy, I guess.

-pray- New anamorphic transfers? -pray-

YES. Clockwork, Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and possibly 2001 are all mine. May even wait for the HD versions when I jump ship too.

truemindframe 07-25-07 05:39 PM

The artwork for A Clockwork Orange calls the film "Clockwork Orange" and drops the "A". Have the previous DVDs of ACO dropped the "A" too?

Chad 07-25-07 05:40 PM

I'm now officially happy I held off on buying the previous versions!

GoldenJCJ 07-25-07 06:32 PM

Alright! I've been itching to buy A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, FMJ, and Eyes Wide shut for a while now. Heck, I may even give 2001 another chance even though I found it mind numbingly boring the last couple times I tried to watch it.

Hopefully the wait is almost over.

Dane Marvin 07-25-07 06:34 PM

Hmm... I wonder why the 2-disc Shining is $6 cheaper than the other SEs? No matter. I'm in for that + 2001 and possibly Clockwork Orange. Depends on if CH is going to carry these titles... it may just be cheaper to pick up the whole box set...

I've held off on ever buying any of these because of the snapper effect. Just rented The Shining, in fact, because we just took the ghost tour of The Stanley Hotel (which was cool, by the way, if you're ever in Estes Park, CO).

Rammsteinfan 07-25-07 06:51 PM

Must know whats on FMJ! Prob pick up the box set.

alfonsosoriano 07-25-07 07:22 PM

I'll definitely get the box set as I don't own any of those Kubrick films. I've been waiting for something like this! Finally!!

The "A" is still there, just look outside the text...

btw, I consider all of Kubrick's films, post-Spartacus, masterpieces, so up-grading from my old versions is a no-brainer for me. I've seen all of those movies many times over and I never tire of them (I can't even count how many times I've seen 2001, Barry Lyndon, Eyes Wide Shut and a Clockwork Orange).

I just wonder if Lolita will contian any of the extended scenes, which I once saw on a VHS version recently reissued.

It's certainly not on the spine though. Strange.

canaryfarmer 07-25-07 09:16 PM

I can't imagine that 2001 will look *that* much better, but if it's even slightly so, how you say, upgrade?

Cosmic Bus 07-25-07 10:02 PM

Will definitely be grabbing the HD versions of 2001, the Shining, EWS and Barry Lyndon (assuming there is one). Don't really care for the artwork, myself, although Clockwork looks the best of the three shown so far; figures, the one movie I don't like!

The 2001 edition of 2001 (har) is good, but it has some edge enhancement at times, as well as some excessive noise reduction in spots. The 1080p transfer shown on HD channels is stunning and completely lacks these issues, so there's a lot of room for improvement. Of course, it'll be vastly more obvious on the HD-DVD and BluRay editions.

wilky61 07-25-07 10:18 PM

Is it true that Shining/FMJ are not going to be full-screen on these releases?

PopcornTreeCt 07-26-07 01:56 AM

And the great Kubrick full screen/widescreen debate starts anew.

I can't imagine them being released as FF again, considering the HD/Blu Ray versions of FMJ were the first widescreen releases ever.

Cameron 07-26-07 10:44 AM

warner stated back at the HTF chat that they would be WS

strange that they didn't include them in the set....i guess they were trying to keep the msrp down. Hope these are also day & date HD titles

islandclaws 07-26-07 12:10 PM

Great looking covers. I'll be picking up the box set as well as Barry Lyndon and Lolita. Have they confirmed which cut of Eyes Wide Shut will be included?

Rypro 525 07-27-07 04:58 AM
