general question about criterions
Where do people usually buy their criterion dvds? Is it mostly an online only thing or are there any B&M stores that carry a wide selection of them? I've seen a few at stores like FYE and Best Buy, but don't know of any store that has a lot of them.

Online. I have a hell of a time finding criterions at reasonable prices (if at all) in B&M stores
|
Tower Records stocks a lot of them, they even have Criterion displays and a Criterion section. Barnes & Noble is another place that has a good amount.

Borders and Barnes & Noble sell quite a bit. The best bet is online at DVD Planet or Amazon with Share The Love. Very happy to see this wasn't a thread about "Why do so many people like Criterion? Their prices are so high" Or "Why do they only release movies I've never heard of?" Thank you for not going there.

Virgin Megastores usually have an entire section devoted to Criterion.

My local Fry's has a good section devoted to Criterions and they carry most everything as far as I can tell. Unfortunately their prices are pretty high (MSRPish) although they occassionally have sales on selected titles. It is still cheaper to buy them online, though. I get most of my titles through STL from Amazon. I also occasionally buy them through Deepdiscountdvd.com and have been meaning to investigate DVDPlanet.

DVDPlanet has all Criterions for 35% off, with free shipping for just about any purchase ($25 and up, I believe). Amazon w/STL works out to be a few pennies cheaper, for preorders. Both are great deals, and blow away anything you'll find in any retail store. |

Mediaplay carries a lot of Criterions too, but they are cheaper to buy online.
In Canada, HMV carries quite a few Criterion titles (they often have a Criterion section), but because they are imported from the US, they are scary expensive! $89.99 CDN for IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE? No thanks! |
