miyazaki : director on conan and sherlock hound. only key animator on lupin...
yanagawas canals : live action documentary out on subtitled japanese dvd. the racoon war = pom poko. |
It says that he directed the first Lupin series, along with Isao Takahata, but only directed episodes 144 and 155 of the new one.
|
ok. how many episodes first series?

I don't know, you're probably right. I'm just telling you what the IMDB says.
|

http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept...pid-1003909899 works out st $75 / £40 : if you added shipping from korea it would be more than this, plus duty / VAT if you live in the UK. getting mine here...! |
How is Panda Go Panda? Pioneer has an inexpensive DVD available as part of their Geneon line.
|
panda go panda = terrible. truly truly abysmal. still : i bought it (completist).
|
What does "Jhiburi Ga ippai Collection" mean? It's the collection that Ghibli DVDs are part of in Japan.
|
it means "ghibli collection" basically... i have all those japanese dvds...

Re: Collecting Miyazaki DVDs For Dummies..
Originally posted by Rogue588 So basically, i'm asking Miyazaki fans on this forum...what's next? Are there other region discs that are better than these? Kiki & Spirted Away are Disney discs and Mononoke is Miramax. http://home.online.no/~njaalha/artim...FFNBo8ayWO.JPG As for Grave of the Fireflies, the alternative name is Tombstone of the Fireflies. I've never seen Gravestone as a title anywhere. Panda! KoPanda! is very sweet, but childish (not surprising, as it's made for small children). I happen to know several kids whose first attempt at words outside of 'Mom' and 'Dad' were trying to sing the quite catchy theme song in Japanese. :p It's certainly not abyssmal. The best versions of Totoro so far would be the R3HK or R3Korea, as they both have more or less literal subtitles. The Japanese release has dubtitles, but an English dub. As for Conan, The Boy In Future, it will be very interesting to see if they've actually remastered it with English subtitles. The set looks identical to the previous Korean set (which I have); That did not have English subtitles, and the PQ was slightly inferior to the Japanese dvds. |
Just another small note, the Japanese Castle of Cagliostro DVD (part of the Ghibli ga Ippai series) has a much better transfer than the US release. Unfortunately it only has the old dub, which means it only has the old dubtitles, which are a fairly poor translation. But still, it's worth it to me since the US release looks really shaky in comparison.

the previous korean boxset was red and white in the design : in the same way as the new is blue and white in its box. as far as i know the korean ghibli discs are direct ports of the japanese discs with the same artwork except the title text changes and the inclusion of korean subtitles.
as for "panda" being abysmal (as i described it) : well, thats opinion, so its not wrong. or right. |

Picture quality is a bit better on the Japanese, but there are interesting extras on all the Korean discs. What the new release will be like is anyones guess. |
|
Nice, but why must they change the design all the time? Oh well, I'm working on custom matching ones eventually.
|
And I want a better Totoro!
|
I'm thinking of ordering the Japanese Totoro. It has the older English dub, and of course Japanese audio with English subtitles. Though I do want the new Disney dub as well.
|
doesnt make sense to me : wanting a particular dub. what does the other lack?
i have the japanese discs for all of the ghibli films ... the only thing about totoro disc which lets it down is the dubtitles. |
The subtitle track on the Japanese disc seems to be for the hearing impaired because it has sounds included (i.e. -laughs-). I also hated seeing subtitles on the screen when no dialog was taking place. That drove me crazy when I watched it.
|
Yeah, yeah, yeah. While I like the option of hearing the original Japanese language, I prefer watching all of my anime dubbed into English. Acually I would prefer every movie I watch to be dubbed into English if it didn't start out that way. Unless it's just a few scenes, like Kill Bill or Star Wars, I'm not there to READ the movie. I would prefer if things like Hero and Amile were dubbed into English, as long as the original audio was on the DVD as well. Call me crazy or whatever, i don't care.
Anyway, the Fox DVD and the Japanese Totoro DVD both use the old Fox English dub, which I hear is pretty good. The current Fox version, of course is English dub only and pan & scan. Disney is supposedly re-dubbing My Neighbor Totoro with celebrity voices and stuff and it's supposed to be better than the original English dub. |
Right. Another reason I'd rather watch it with English dialogue. I may watch it once with Japanese to compare, but I much prefer English since it's the only language I know.
|
ok : even though korean suppliers websites say (of the "conan" blue memorial boxset) that its got english subtitles, yesasia have adjusted their listing to say it hasnt : so i have cancelled it. yesasia seem to think their info is correct, so why are korean sites listing subtitles (personally, i think korean sites are more likely correct) but i aint riking it! order cancelled!
