Free Original Star Wars Trilogy. A certain web retailer shipped it to me after I had cancelled my order and they never charged me.

Received a defective Cannibal Holocaust SE from Overstock.com.After a few inquiries to customer service, they took it back. They sent me a new one and gave me credit for the original purchase.
Picked up A&E's Joe90 (Gerry Anderson/4 Discs/Sealed) for $1.04 on Ebay.

I just picked up Army Of Darkness Boomstick Edition for 8.95 used and was able to sell my bootleg edition for $5.00 so I thought that was a pretty good upgrade price.

I also picked up the Fantastic Four Tin that bestbuy put out for about 10.95 used. Apparently it is going for about $50-60 on Ebay - I'm keeping it anyway but will keep an eye on those prices - gotta supply $$ to keep my DVD addiction going.

Hardly a bargain prior to 2000. Almost ANY DVD could be had for $6 or less. Online companies were giving them away.

How about 800.com's 3 for $1? Hard to top that one.

Way too many too count, considering I was around in the heady 1999-2000 days.

But beyond the 800.com deal, how about the free Hitchcock box set. That was something else!

Edit: This was the set in question btw. I'm sure the thread is still around here somewhere...

Buffy Complete Series at BestBuy for $49.99 Plus a 10% off coupon so it was $45 total. The set was mispriced, so I lucked out.

The 3 for $1.00 deal on 800.com was nice, but so was the 2 for $15 with free shipping and no tax (after the $10 coupon) at Reel.com. I'm pretty sure that all of us on this board that used to collect DVD's back in those days put Reel.com out of business.

nothing that great for me
the hulk from craft (movie sucks balls)
blair witch project from kmart for $2 (I like the movie, so its a good deal, a kmart stickered them at $5 accidentally, and kmart used to have a policy that you got $3 off an item if it scanned for a different price)

Back in the early overstock days I scored the OOP Jurrassic Park box set for like $15 after some coupons and such. I got it in the first small wave. Peeps were snapping them up at $25 when they got them back in stock.

I got in on the FYE fiasco. Got Starship Troopers SE, Cop Land, and Equilibrium for $2 each.

I did get My So-Called Life used for $30 also.

Funny stuff....some people here don't know a real deal.

As mentioned, pre-2000 was the time to get in...you had internet startups that were begging for your business (800.com), and more legit sites that are now out of business that always had great coupons (reel.com)...

Of course there were always the random rogue deals back then too....pretty paltry stuff lately.

I bought Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection #6 at my local Hastings for $14.99 (MSRP $59.98) due to a pricing error. It wasn't a singular event though, they had two other copies on the shelf at the same price. I have found several pricing errors at Hastings.

I also bought the Kingdom of Heaven 4-disc Director's Cut for ~$12 during a Hastings 30% off used sale. The set had barely been touched. If it had been a little more popular film, that set should have MSRP'd for $50.

So any "deal" after 2000 isn't really a deal? Nice logic.

Maybe some people weren't buying DVDs pre-2000. And just because those were the deals back then, doesn't make what people find today any less of a deal.

If I find a $50 box set for $5.99, how is that not a deal? That box set wasn't even released back in 2000, so how could you even compare the 2?

I know this is from April, but I never saw it. Please explain how Target's $5.99 price mistake was "hardly a bargain". Half of the stuff that's out now wasn't even out back then. When DVD's first came out, there's wasn't even TV-on-DVD, which is what the price mistake was on. ANY DVD applies to a more massive library now than it did prior to 2000.

That's like saying a bargain on a certain model of a DVD player is not a bargain because a different model was cheaper 7 years ago.

I got the LOTR Entended Edition Trilogy for $30 when it first came out from this one store. And about 2 weeks ago i found the original Lion King 2 Disc at target for $5.33, apparently they found it in the backroom under the shelves. :-D

I agree you got a good price on TV sets. I got several as well. (not that it really matters in this thread, but that was a price mistake)

The 3 for a $1 does pretty much trump everything in the "trying to be legit category" though. Reel, DVDWave (before their mess), BigStar,DVDExpress, Whatshotnow, Familywonder, good times for pretty much free DVDs

Back when season two of "The Simpsons" came out, I got it free. I bought a few items at Wal-Mart, and when they gave me the total, it was about $30 less than I expected. I kept my mouth shut, and when I got out to my vehicle, I examined my receipt... they somehow didn't ring up the set.

About 4 years ago I found "This Island Earth" in the used section at J and R Music here in NYC. It wasn't sealed but it looked unplayed with snap case virtually mint . Got it for $10 and considering it's resale value at the time I'd call that a great bargain.
I suppose I could have sold it for about $100 when I had the chance but I'm happy to still have it and the recent superior re-issue.

Also have "The Devils Advocate" unaltered version found used, near perfect, at Academy records for $10.

( used to shop the used bins all over NYC heavily, not so much anymore)
