Loverboy (1989) - why the high price?

OK...help me understand something here.

I like this movie, but I don't recall it being such a huge box office hit filled with the top names that it would warrant the price that everyone seems to be offering it for. Best Buy, Amazon, DVD Planet, even eBay...why would I want to pay any higher than (maybe) $14.99 for a late 80's comedy? Best Buy is the place I buy DVD's most often, but $20.99 for this?

Because it's Columbia Tri-Star? Be glad it's not fullscreen.

edited to add: The SRP is $24.95, which seems to be Columbia Tri-Star's standard SRP for catalog titles. But at least they released it in widescreen, unlike some others.

You've probably answered your own question without even realizing it: because it was not a huge hit, the potential DVD sales are limited, and the cost of preparing and releasing it will have to be recouped with far fewer discs being sold.

BTW, I saw this in the theater when it first came out, and enjoyed it. Great cast too, with Patrick Dempsey, Kate Jackson, Kirstie Alley, Carrie Fisher, Barbara Carrera, Dylan Walsh, Vic Tayback, etc. I'd be tempted to get it if it had a decent SRP.

There's been a ton of movies that weren't huge hits, and probably shared the same limited potential for sales on DVD, but they still seem to get released with an SRP of $14.99 or lower.

I just picked up Brain Donors, which, if I'm not mistaken, was just released for the first time on disc, for $9.99 (SRP $14.99). Didn't have nearly the star power that Loverboy has (Vic Tayback!!!), but I doubt that either was any bigger of a hit than the other.

Any word on a price drop?

This is actually a great film and comedy. I would agree that the MSRP is way to high for this film, same can be said for Just One Of The Guys, but isn't that 4:3?

Fact is, if you can find this for around $15 dollars or so, buy it.

They're waiting for Loverboy: the McDreamy Delivery Boy Edition..

I'm thinking Extra Anchovies Edition.
