Wonder what the R1 packaging will be like.

I have still yet to watch the 2nd disc of the TGTBTU set. Same thing with the OUATITW.

Looks like we might have a wait for the SEs with the whole Sony / MGM / UA thing going on. DVD Savant Glenn Erikson is saying:

MGM's unannounced release schedule may quickly evaporate - we have no idea if the MGM/UA/ORION library will be marketed in the same way. Savant even has some editorial work tied up in Special Editions that might be delayed or sidelined...

It's a fair bet that Glenn's referring to the R1 Leone SEs; I read somewhere else that it may be September before Sony sort out a schedule for MGM/UA discs...I hope not!

No big suprise with sony. They need to take those dvd's and split all the features into three different editions so they can get a triple dip on leone fans. So its probably likely that we won't see everything for a long time

I swear, if Sony pulls that Special, Deluxe, Limited, Superbit bullshit, they can kiss my ass. I'll stick with the MGM editions.

from the DVDTimes review of Fistful of Dollars:

There are two soundtracks provided, both in English. Sadly, neither of these is the original Mono track. The director of MGM's technical operations has explained how damaged the English composite track had become and he enthuses on the disc about how good the film now sounds.. Up to a point, he's sort of right. The music has never sounded as crisp as it does here and fans of surround sound will be pleased to find some moments in the film which have been 'enhanced' to utilise the surround channels and the rears. The gunshots have been fiddled with to make them boom a bit more impressively in the .1 LFE. There isn't a great deal of difference between the Dolby Digital 5.1 and the DTS 5.1 Surround tracks, although the latter seems to be a bit louder overall. This is also the case on the other new Leone releases I'll be reviewing. But, and it's a big but, this isn't the soundtrack for the film that Leone designed and, considering how assiduous he was about the sound for his films, we really should be given the original restored Mono track as well as this remix. As the original track isn't included, I haven't given a mark for the audio. If you like surround remixes then this will suit you very nicely. If you don't, there doesn't seem to be an option I'm afraid since the intended R1 releases for these films seem to have vanished from the radar.
Well, that sucks.

What sucks, Josh, the absence of the original mono track or the disappearance from the R1 release schedule?

I knew this Sony deal was bad news....

I don't mind waiting another couple of months - as long as it comes out as initially planned (packaging, extras, etc). If it gets delayed 6-12 months or has reduced specs then I'll really be pissed.

I really want these movies!

Further to the release of the R2 SEs, there are claims on thedvdforums.com that FAFDM has been cut by MGM - see the posts in this thread here on this page.

If this is the case - and while I love these films, I certainly don't know - maybe the Sony / MGM delay will allow the new owners time to sort this out before a R1 release?

The review says that Dynamite also has slim cuts in it.

Looks like I just have to endure the wait for the R1s.
