Surprise, surprise, Guzzlefish down again

Been down since yesterday. What a piece of crap site.

scottall 10-24-04 05:03 PM

I want my money back. Oh wait, it's free.

speedyray 10-24-04 05:16 PM

Damn, I hope it either comes back updated, or not at all.

danwiz 10-24-04 06:48 PM

What's new??? Do we HAVE to have a notification about this EVERY time they go down?? We just got rid of one which stayed on the first page or 2 for over a week!

Use DVDProfiler if you want something that works and something that is updated regularly! I believe, from the posts in the most recent thread about this, that most folks have already stopped using GF, I know I have!

mdc3000 10-24-04 09:16 PM

I also stopped using the fish long ago....although I do miss it...sometimes

MATT

toccoa_winters 10-24-04 09:19 PM

ive stopped usint it. ive switched to dvdprofiler. i do miss the statistics but i could never update my collection on guzzlefish so they were useless.

Maybe it's down so they can update their database to include Mystic River.

Ah yes, because that's the only title that they haven't updated. :)

You have to take it one step at a time.

Tarantino 10-25-04 12:33 AM

I wouldn't know...I use DVDSpot.

Fixed.

Laser Movies 10-25-04 02:17 AM

Maybe they should just convert over to a laserdisc site so they don't need to update the database.

steebo777 10-25-04 08:29 AM

I abandoned GF over a month ago and haven't looked back since.

matome 10-25-04 09:04 AM

This thread should be a sticky.

chilisupra 10-25-04 03:55 PM

i second this down with guzzlefish thing!

is dvdspot any good? i'm thinking of trying that out.

Mike Lowrey 10-25-04 04:38 PM

I stopped using Guzzlefish long time ago.

I like DVDAficionado and DVDspot is not bad. However, I find some of their coverscans are not very good.

You can always submit different cover scan s, that's what I've done. They'll be up within a day.

I switched from DVD Profiler, to Ant Movie Catalog... never had problems with it... and it has this nifty export for placing your catalog on a PPC:

Yes. DVDspot is very good and the man who runs it is so very helpful it is a pleasure to deal with him. Submissions are added very quickly, and he fixed a bug I noticed in less than a day. They made dumping the fish much, much easier.

I'll second that. The management at DVDSpot is VERY responsive and actually cares about having an accurate and comprehensive database with cool features.

The problem with DVDSpot, GuzzleFish, DVDaf, and DVD Profiler is that they censor what titles are actually available for inclusion in collections. None of these will allow me to catalog Roger Corman's "Fantastic Four", for example. Or my copy of the WPIX Yule Log... Or "Lady in a Cage", or... the list goes on.

I understand that it isn't a problem that most have to deal with. But it is annoying to have a handful of titles that can't be listed.

You can include titles in Profiler that aren't in the database. You won't get all the other info, and it won't show up online, but it'll be in your collection.

I have a title called "Illegal Art" that I added to my personal collection but did not submit to the database. It does show up online, though oddly it has a random piece of cover art from what looks like an Asian movie.

LDDb has already got that covered, and without the screwups that Guzzlefish suffers from. There is basically no need for Guzzlefish to exist anymore.

My statement was meant as sarcasm toward Guzzlefish since they don't update their database. They might as well use a dead format that no longer is releasing new titles.
