IMPORTANT! There are numerous "haunted house" movies, and as a result I'm going to divide this topic into at least two polls. For this poll the DVD cannot be in a Snap Case — go to HH POLL 2 if your favorite is in a snapper, as most Warner titles are.

HH POLL 1 (this one) should strictly meet the following 3 criterion:
• Adult Horror only — also no comedic haunted houses (such as the Eddie Murphy "The Haunted Mansion" or "Ghostbusters")
• The haunted house must be of a gothic nature, and not modern
• The house must be haunted by (at least some) supernatural forces (no psychopaths, axe wielders, serial killers, zombies, etc.)

The poll limits me to 10 entries, so I'll scoop up your "OTHER (Please Specify)" responses and list them manually by editing this lead thread.

Please also feel free to correct any of the choices I've made. I haven't seen (most) of these and there may be one or two that don't belong in this poll. Okay here's another possibility I found while researching good Haunted House stories for Halloween. Has anyone seen:

As his beautiful young wife Madeline dies slowly of some dreaded ailment, fevered artist Roderick Usher asks his old friend Allan to keep him company in these morbid times. Shortly after Allan arrives, Madeline dies -- or does she? As Roderick himself succumbs to the melancholy, noises from Madeleine's tomb cry out -- Death is not the end! Working from several of Edgar Allen Poe's stories, French avant-garde visionary Jean Epstein crafted one of the most highly acclaimed and internationally renowned film adaptations of Poe. Co-directed with surrealist filmmaker Luis Bunuel and starring Abel Gance's wife as the undead Madeleine, this 1928 classic is a true feast for the eyes and proof positive that the German Expressionists did not have a corner on the Gothic horror market. Newly mastered from a 35mm preservation positive, with a soundtrack by acclaimed music historian Rolande de Cande adapted from medieval music.

This is a "Vote your favorite Haunted House movie" poll (part one). If it isn't listed in the poll, post your choice here — or in the second poll (HH POLL 2) if it doesn't strictly match the criterion for this one, listed above.

Peach - you may want to make this a little more fun by cutting out some of the details you're asking for.

Also, keeping one thread only will do just fine.

I don't understand the snapper requirement. I know YOU despise them and refuse to purchase any films using them, but they have nothing to do with the actual movies.

I think the case formatting mixed with movie content makes this poll too confusing for DVD Talk's senior citizens. Calling all DVD Talk lawyers . . .

My choices:

The Devil's Backbone (a haunted school, but it was a boarding school and therefore a "house." )
Burnt Offerings
House

Last House on the Left and Last House on a Dead End Street do not belong in the poll...

And, snap case or not (that is the silliest "criteria" I ever heard of), these are my favorite Haunted House/Ghosts/Supernatural movies:

Poltergeist
Ghost Story
The Amityville Horror
Amityville II: The Possession
The Changeling
The Haunting (1963)
The Eye
Session 9
Don't Look Now
The Others

Well thank you at least for the first kind reply I've had on these two threads.

I know I can't please everybody but my style has obviously rubbed everyone the wrong way.

I do thank the few people who are participating in the poll, however. I would like to have a couple of good Haunted House titles in my collection and wanted a broad variety of opinions. But now it's kind of pointless to scroll down the thread, since no one wants to actually discuss the movies.

Perhaps someone else can post a politically correct thread for Haunted House movies. I'm serious, I wanted to get feedback on these titles since I've only seen a few of them and I assure you I don't care who starts the thread.

that is all you needed to say in one thread and not get so damn convuluted and suck the life out of something that could have been a fun pre-Halloween thread.

From Webster's:
Politically Correct: conforming or adhering to what is regarded as orthodox liberal opinion on matters of sexuality, race, etc.: usually used disparagingly to connote dogmatism, excessive sensitivity to minority causes, etc.

What does political correctness have to do with these polls?

Oh, and to stay on topic, any haunted house collections should begin with the original version of "The Haunting," regardless of what kind of case it comes in. The remake with Liam Neeson, pictured in the first post, doesn't belong in anyone's collection.

You've got to carry the three until it hits Frankfort.

And then you divide by Seven, the movie.
