Updated my review ...
UPDATE (10/27): Two issues have risen since this review was filed. Foremost for CineSchlockers, the digital camouflaging of TWO BREASTS inexplicably deemed suitable for foreign viewers, but not for this "Unrated" domestic release. Second, the absence of a "Surviving the Dawn" cast featuertte available on the R-rated version. My extras rating has been lowered accordingly -- by a full star. |
Thta's pretty crappy about the tit shot. Doesn't really detract from my enjoyment of the film. I'm more curious of the reason for cutting it. The lack of that extra featurette sucks though.
Anyway, is the archive footage that is shown over the Johnny Cash opening real footage, or filmed specifically for the movie? That shot of the dump truck speeding full tilt at that crowd of people was awesome. |
I heard about the boobie shot from owners of the disc in other regions. So I was all lubed up and ready to go, only to be sadly DISAPPOINTED when the scene came up. Ended up having to use an old Sears Catalog to finish the job.

If you frame-by-frame it, you can still get a little nip action peeking through at the right spots, so you can put the catalog away. |
Director's choice?
Hey all,
I must say that myself, as well as many other fans are shocked by the "cgi" blood added to the breast scene. Now... a few questions to perhaps find the method behind the madness.... Ok, has anyone noticed if this "added" blood shows up in all other shots of the windshield for the rest of the scenes? If so, it may have been added to help continuity. If i remember correctly, when the first zombie smached her windshield, i remember that it seemed there was more blood on the glass during the attack, and then it disappeared after.... Also, since this is the DIRECTORS cut, do you think that the director chose it to be this way because he think's it better? If that's the case, then this is the version he wants. I can do without the boobs, if it is what he initially intended. Also, if those are undoctored screen shots above, then the clarity is much better on the US unrated version. Ok, since some of the other regions are calling it the directors cut, they must be wrong -- would the director actually have different preferred cuts for different countries? Sounds strange to me.... Also, is that one featurette REALLY missing from the unrated version (and shows on the R version?)? Are there any other noticible differences bet. the US unrated cut and the other regions'? Thanks, Matt |
Oh yea, any easter eggs yet?

Just print out the screen cap of the boobies.
When the scene comes up, hold up the pic for a second... put the pic down... enjoy the rest of the movie :) |
All this....Over a pair of tits

Re: Director's choice?
Just finished watching the director's commentary. I think it'd make a good drinking game. Take a shot every time the director:
a) says some variation of the phrase "that's what you want" b) repeats dialogue from the film and c) states what's going on in the movie I guarentee that you're going to need to get your stomach pumped. Originally posted by KillerQ Ok, has anyone noticed if this "added" blood shows up in all other shots of the windshield for the rest of the scenes? If so, it may have been added to help continuity. If i remember correctly, when the first zombie smached her windshield, i remember that it seemed there was more blood on the glass during the attack, and then it disappeared after.... The blood's only there in that one shot, as mentioned above. On the commentary, the director just said, "here's the naked woman" and that's it (besides thanking the actress). Also, is that one featurette REALLY missing from the unrated version (and shows on the R version?)? Overall, I'm satisfied with the DVD. The CGI blood didn't bother me and I agree with the poster above in that, until I hear differently, I am assuming that the missing featurette is of the "HBO First Look" quality. One thing that made me laugh is in the "Special Report" bonus feature (additional news reports). During one clip, the reporter is in "London," but the cars parked in the street behind him are lined up incorrectly. Maybe amid the chaos in London, all the drivers spontaneously drove on the wrong side of the road (and parked their cars). |

The entire tit thing is getting ridiculous. There are still tits left in the film. So I doubt it was 'censored' to 'protect' us. Until I hear otherwise: I won't worry about the issue as it did not 'ruin' the film for myself.
The hometheaterforum.com thread is hilarious though. Since now they are mentioning the Terminator 3 dvd 'fiasco' that was 'never corrected'. Boy are they horny clueless bastards. I mean,I saw T3 in theaters and the 'infamous' shot was framed exactly as on the widescreen dvd. So the widescreen version is not 'cropped improperly' and is framed correctly. But god forbid,a nanosecond shot of a tit shows up in the pan & scan version. So the horndogs cry out '"it's misframed,it's defective..arghhhhhhhhhh" :D |

Tits?! Where?! WHERE?!
heh. sorry. I too will not worry too much about it, though I think my boss has a different opinion since he was pretty uppity about it when I told him "some" tits were missing from the "unrated US version". |
Then I then you should ask the question and try contacting Universal or Zack Synder.
Yet instead wild accusations are going around, many of them amusing. Conspiracy theories regarding it being 'toned' down because of the MPAA depsite being an unrated version. The studio thinking we can't 'handle' a brief glimpse of some breasts. "It's Eyes Wide Shut all over again!!!" are some cries. But while I do think it is baffling. I won't let it bog my enjoyment of the film down. If someone knows how to contact Universal or Snyder. Let me know,we should get too the bottom of it that way. But then, thinking up wild possibilities is more fun;) |
Wait so theres a featurette on the R-rated thats not on the Unrated? WTF!!!

Originally posted by TylerDurden_73 All this....Over a pair of tits Yeah, who cares. The tits I saw weren't even that great. Besides, if I want tits I'll DL porn. :p I want blood, guts, the scary, and violence. |
I can't imagine anyone here purchsing the R-rated disc to be able to know what's on the "Surviving the Dawn" featurette, but if anyone has, can they describe what this feature is all about?

Re: Director's choice?
I never saw this in the theater, but considering that this is the directors cut I bought, I had already assumed that there would be a multitude of edits to the movie. To shape it into the flick that the director originally envisioned, not barred by the mpaa at all.
So because of that, as well as the other breasts in the film, I'd have to think that this was added by the director for reasons other than censorship. The same way other scenes were added in. A choice of the director, much like the choice of aspect ratio, etc - maybe he felt the continuity was better served without boobage? Insofar as the missing extra is concerned - after viewing the rest of the extras on the disc, I'm not so concerned about it ;) Still, it would be interesting to hear the real reason behind the cgi spatter. |
I guess it could be a continuity thing. I mean, where exactly did this totally naked chick come from? The road looked pretty desolate. Was she on the bus naked?
|
I saw the R3 unrated version a couple of months ago and that scene really seemed out of place to me. Almost like they wanted to stick a naked woman in there.
When I watched it a second time on my R1 Unrated copy, it made a little more sense, it helps explain why she is zoning out when the (bus driver?) tries to steal her car. Still, I'd rather have it not in there at all instead of some afternoon CGI fix it job we are left with. The director seems to be a film geek so hopefully he will comment on the censorship. I agreed with the theory on HTF that this was a 2nd proposed cut presented to the MPAA that failed, so, in their eyes, it is uncut. |
