Born on the Fourth of July SE - Opinions?
I just picked up my copy tonight and noticed some strange things.
I have owned every video version of this movie from VHS/LD to DVD (except the DTS) since the beginning. I have only watched the first 1/2 hour but something made me stop and put in my old DVD copy. The detail is much better and most of the horrible edge enhancement seems to be gone but what happened to the color and brightness? The new version seems almost washed out. I know he was trying to achieve a "60s" look but on the original DVD the parade scene was a very bright orange, the new DVD seems almost B&W. Anyone else notice this problem? I haven't seen a single review yet (ever since DVDFile stopped, I can't find catalog reviews anymore). I'll try to post some screen shots later if anyone cares. Doug |

That did actually cross my mind as I watched the first part, but I didn't remember the film well enough to recognize the difference. Maybe the older version was over saturated and this is how it should look? |
See a good review at DVD Authority.

Thanks Larry,
I may need to get out of the credit sequence to make a full opinion. One other nitpick, they used the same chapter stops from the original release. This was back when Universal would use like 8-16 chapter stops no matter how long the movie was. These aren't scene selections, they are like 40 minute blocks. |
