All I really wanted to buy these again is a commentary track by Besson. As it is, I've already bought Leon/The Professional twice so I'll stick with the versions I currently have and rent the new SEs for the featurettes.

Edit: I am glad to see he's returning to directing for the first time in seven years with Arthur and the Minimoys - even if it is animated.

Is it worth a double dip (from the corrected Leon version)?

Thanks for the link. I wonder if previos R1 releases suffered from those problems. Hopefully they will do a comparison of all the versions.

I love this movie and mine should be here on Friday! I'll keep my other and be doubly happy.
"while the DTS track immerses the viewer in a very live 5-channel music mix. There is also more rear effects activity in the DTS track, albeit to a lesser extent. It’s enough to give the DTS track a more spacious, vibrant feel."from the HTF reviewer...and I love good sound!!!

I own the corrected release of LEON and the Superbit DVD of Fifth Element and feel neither is worth upgrading to... I'm a big fan of both films, but it's just not worth it in terms of the extras, etc.

Review of 5th Element SE is up at the Bits! Superbit transfer, 2hrs of extras (most in 16:9) only thing I'm bummed about is no 5th Element trailer. Other than that, sounds great.

Definitely picking up the Leon disc, but I'll have to pass on The Fifth Element. I have the R1 Superbit as well as the R2 SE which looks like it has pretty much the same extras. The R2 also has a visual effects commentary track and trailers/TV spots, while the R1 has the retrospective interviews and the pop up fact track.

We have a full comparison review of The Fifth Element here. It takes into account the new Deluxe Edition, the current Superbit and the UK Special Edition.

Wow, thanks for that great comparison review! Looks like I'll have to pick up the new Fifth Element disc after all! I usually never bother with extras but these are two of my fave films, so they get the exception. The fact track on Leon was excellent (sad to hear the big, bald guy that played Benny in Stansfield's crew was a real NYC firefighter who died on 9/11) and am looking forward to more tidbits on The Fifth Element. It's a great feature that I had only previously seen on the Bring It On DVD.

The R1 Superbit still looks like the best of the bunch to me. I'll stick with that one.

What I heard was that the new Leon has the trailer for The Fifth Element and vice versa.

According to this link the corrected version of Leon has catalogue number 06196. I can't confirm this, but I just ran across it.

I'm not getting the Leon SE.

There's gotta be other Sony releases with the 5th Element trailer...anyone know of any?

I'll probably buy The Fifth Element...I liked the movie when I saw it in theaters, but (for some reason) I haven't picked it up on DVD yet. Seems as good a time as any. I'll stick with my Uncut International version of Leon, though...it doesn't seem worth the "upgrade".

They had Leon for $14.95 at my CC, so I decided to spring for it after passing on it earlier in the day for $17.99 at BB.

OK, I see losts of posts and reviews but nothing that definitively tells me the new Fifth Element UE is comparable to the previous Superbit release. I would guess the DTS track is eaxactly the same and that the video is better than the Standard release but not up to par with the Superbit. Is that correct? Cause if the video is nearly identical to the SB and the audio is the same, maybe I should dump my SB copy in favor of the UE to gain the extras. Are any of these releases in EX audio?

Jamers, oh no--the new release improves even upon the original Superbit's video quality--see details here: http://www.dvddebate.com/modules.php...ticle&sid=5085

The Fifth Element UE is a Superbit disc. Every review I've read says that the PQ is either identical to or better than the previous Superbit release. Dvddebat.com says it is better, dvd-compare.com says they are identical. 1 person at AVSForum.com who did a pretty thorough analysis says the UE is slightly better. So in no case is it a step backwards in PQ.

That would be great news but I don't actually see the words "Superbit" anywhere on the packaging or on any website description. How can I be sure?

Look harder. It's there (but small) on the back of the package.

I have both DVDs and basically agree with the DVD Debate summary that someone else mentioned - that is the UE is slightly improved.

While I don't exactly agree with all of DVD Talk reviewer Ian Jane's points. I do think his conclusion is on the money:

If you’ve already got the single disc Superbit release, whether you’ll want to upgrade or not will hinge solely on how much stock you put in the supplements – of which there are quite a few, and most of which are pretty interesting. If you don’t already own a copy of the film, then The Fifth Element – Ultimate Edition two disc set comes highly recommended. The movie is a lot of fun and it looks and sounds terrific on this release.

Here's a link to a picture of the back cover that shows the Superbit logo:
