New THE DOORS anamorphic?
OK, I was at a store here today and saw THE DOORS for sale and noticed it had a difference case. It wasn't the big grey double DVD case that I got now, it was a normal black single size DVD case...
But on the back it says under widescreen "Enhanced for widescreen TVs"... Now, the version I got now isn't anamorphic. This dvd I saw today had EVERYTHING that my version has, except it says the "enhanced for" bit... Is it the SAME disc or have they actually made it anamorphic now? Thanks!! |
I'm wondering the same thing.....
|
Cause if it is anamorphic....I want it..
|
I found this on yahoo but the link was old:
IGN DVD brings its readers the latest news, previews, and reviews of all of the latest DVD releases every day of the week. ... Doors, Oliver Stone's look at the 60s rock band of the same name, is getting its second DVD treatment, a bit more befitting a Lizard King. 2.35:1 anamorphic ... 2nd treatment? Crap. I think this version might be amamorphic. Thing is, the UPCs were the same for the old and the new, but crap.... |
Holy cow batman! Now if CH would only ship an anamorphic version...
|
It already had 2 treatments. I have the first one and passed on the SE because it was the same non-anamorphic transfer. It looks like the 3rd time is the charm. It's about time.
|
Yeah but is it for real?
It says Enhanced, which the other one didn't... Hmm...Must be a way to find out without buying.... |
Oh no, hold on. I just checked IGN's review, and in addition to the review being dated January 25, 2001 (which is about the time the SE was released), there is this little tidbit:
This is weird. The box boasts an Anamorphic transfer but guess what? NO DICE. In fact, this disc doesn't look any better than my old DVD. It's very grainy and seems like a port of a laserdisc. A film so reliant on visual presentation gets a little kick in the jaw here. |
Im still not convinced either way.
This new version I saw just came out withen a week ago... |
I think what you saw is a repackaging of the current SE. Maybe a single-sized case fits better in the new Oliver Stone box that streets next week. I believe that if they finally did make it anamorphic, there would have been a press release about it, it would have been on the release lists, we would have heard about it here, it would be labeled "Extreme Psychedelic Edition," etc., etc.
Then again, maybe they finally did make it anamorphic for the set. I guess we'll have to wait for reviews to find out. If it is a new edition, I don't know why they wouldn't want to promote it. |
i swapped my non anamorphic R1 against the anamorphic R2 release last year...
what a great movie... is everybody in? the movie is about to begin... |
When is the boxset out? Guess we'll have to wait for reviews for this...

I might end up having to buy it just to find out...
I'd be taking a risk for us all... Anyone? |
Anyone? =p
|
I, for one, would love it if you'd take that risk on our behalf, because if it pans out, I will rebuy THE DOORS in a heartbeat...
|
I don't know about the new single-disc version you saw in the store, but the "Doors" disc included in the new box set is NOT anamorphic. It's the exact same disc that was in the 2-disc SE, down to the disc art (it even says "Disc 1" on it).
The good news is that the new transfer of "Born on the Fourth of July" is OUTSTANDING. I didn't realize how horrible the old transfer was until I compared the two. Man! |
Then why does it say "enhanced"??

Will this have subtitles? I've always wondered what Kathleen Quinlan says during the Carmana Burana-humping scene.

I also saw the new version here in Montreal. But it's from Alliance Atlantis. It says it's enhanced for 16x9 tv's.
|
Originally posted by Kolchak It says it's enhanced for 16x9 tv's. The old version never said this. Nor did it ever say "anamorphic". I don't know where IGN ever got the idea that it was... We must find this out guys. |
anything new yet?
