How to spend one's weekend

I am posting this for everyone's amusement
While I was at work, someone in my family called in that the furnace was not working (we have gas heat). A worker came to fix it and was not careful with his tools. He hit the wrong thing and 6,000 plus dvds and VHS tapes collapsed (some from shelves). They were in order. I have been working on it for close 18 hours and I am just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe finished by Tuesday night.

Let the psychoanalysis begin!

Austin54 10-11-04 12:40 PM

Is this before or after I murder the worker? :)

Austin54, are you the one with the photos on the other thread of huge piles of media being waded through? Not to poke fun, but it adds to the horror of the imagery of what happened.

mjlukich 10-11-04 01:05 PM

A scene from High Fidelity just came to mind. You guys know the one I'm talking about?

Austin54 10-11-04 01:09 PM

Yes, I am the guy with the piles, except that I had put them in alphabetical order after I took the pictures. The next step was to find shelves. By the way, I think my estimate of 5,000 is on the low side.

Children are weeping for your plight.

eedoon 10-11-04 01:14 PM

:whofart: that sucks. And what do you really do with the worker, just leave him like that or something?

bigrederik 10-11-04 01:21 PM

Dude
that same thing happened to me, except it was about 700 DVDs. I had a party at my house, and a drunk friend woke up and tried to leave. Unfortunatly, he thought for some reason that my DVD shelves was the door, and "opened" them. I came downstairs and found a pile of movies on the floor. I was not impressed.

Austin54 10-11-04 01:31 PM

The worker had gone already by the time I got home.
The pile went from one end of the basement to the other. At the walls, it looked like a tital wave had hit and left a mountain of dvds. I spent 3 hours on Friday, 7 hours on Saturday, and 4 hours yesterday. I still have quite a bit of work to go. I had the Yank game to listen to on Friday and Saturday.

Austin, I can't imagine the agony you must have felt when you saw that mess. Does this mean you'll be getting lockable storage cabinets?

JDF5244 10-11-04 03:06 PM

It wouldn't surprise me if you find that the worker 'accidentally' dropped a few of the spilled DVDs into his toolbox....

I demand pictures! ;)

Yeah, he probably gabbed all the OOP Criterions, the bastard. If you own Salo, you may want to make sure it's still there.

no kidding.. it would probably take months to figure out if you was missing a couple with that many. I have about 600, and it takes me a couple of hours to inventory them sometimes..

gutwrencher 10-11-04 03:58 PM

another reason why I keep my library locked away....out of sight and away from morons.

emhello 10-11-04 06:14 PM

Yep mine are in upstairs closets

Maybe instead of spending countless hours reorganizing the films (and taking a chance of the SAME EXACT FREAKING THING HAPPENING)... you should maybe find the shelves first and then set them up in a way that they won't topple if someone "hits the wrong thing"?

:)

You can be glad it was not one of my friends. i was having a party and he could not figure out how to open the door. So he punched a hole through the door. great friends huh.

And that does suck austin, i feel for you.

I think secretly he actually enjoys reorganizing them over and over again. :D

My father was with him most of the time so I doubt anything is missing. The CC were not in the area that fell.
The bad news - the furnace wasn't fixed. He maybe back today. I am not looking forward to it.

This thread is useless without pics.

It has been delayed by one day. Illness in my family.
No pictures. I picked it up too fast.
