Kubrick's top ten list?
I don't know if I remember correctly, but I think there was a post on this forum once mentioning Stanley Kubrick's top ten favourite films. I've tried using the search function but with no luck. It was an URL where there were other director's favourites as well. John Waters (surprisingly) top ten religious movies among others.
One of the films on Kubrick's list was "The Jerk" with Steve Martin. Can someone point me in the right direction? |
Eraserhead was also one of his favorites, apparently.
Directors often have interesting choices for favorites... after all, Alfred Hitchcock's favorite "guilty pleasure" movies were Benji and Smokey and the Bandit. |
From the internet movie database bio on Kubrick:
As of 1963 his favorite films were, in order, I Vitelloni, Wild Strawberries, Citizen Kane, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, City Lights, Henry V, La Notte, The Bank Dick, Roxie Hart, and Hell's Angels. But they also state he liked "The Jerk" and "The Godfather" in the same bio. |
Here's a longer answer, but most of it's been covered here.

He liked White Men Can't Jump.

Nice list.

One of his daughters confirmed that the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre was up there.
Stanley always did have good...taste. :D |
I remember reading he was absolutely in awe of what Kieslowski did with the Dekalogue.
