"Big Red One" Extended Director's Cut?

Was watching Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday and Mark Hamill was on promoting the Star Wars box set AND a new release of Big Red One (also starring Lee Marvin). Apparently the version that we all know clocks in at about 1 hour 50 minutes. Mark was saying that a theatrical re-release of the extended [originally] intended much longer release of a, I want to say, 2 hour 45 minute cut of the movie. According to Mark, it'll be released to theaters sometime before the end of the year (I think). Then he said that a 2-disc DVD would come out on the 60th Anniversary of VE-Day, which would be next May. But apparently this movie has been restored (probably by Lowry Digital) with an all new sound mix. Isn't the current DVD in Dolby 2.0 mono? or is it surround?

Anyway, I always liked this movie for being not nearly as bad as some early post-war WWII movies, but not as good as late '90s WWII movies. So a new edition/version of this would be a great addition to anyone's WWII collection. It'll be interesting to see what has been cut out all these years.

Now all we need is a restored version of A Bridge Too Far. I think Lowry Digital could make that film look gorgeous.

It was the cover story of the May/June issue of Film Comment with a review by Kent Jones and a short piece by Richard Schickel detailing the "reconstruction".

Sign me up for the extended version 2-disc SE. I always liked this movie, and besides, it has Lee Marvin in it. `Nuff said.

I remember watching this movie on Showtime numerous times when I was a kid. I have the current DVD, but would get the 2 disc if it came out. Good news.

I always thought it was a good movie. Very character driven. Would love to see this movie given a deluxe version.
