Untouchables SE: Anyone watch it yet?
I'd love to hear about the extras. Are they any good.
For what it's worth, Entertainment Weekly gave it a good review.
It's not out yet.

Originally posted by cupon Same video & audio from prior release. I'm passing. Some reviews: http://www.dvdauthority.com/reviews.asp?reviewID=4044 http://dvdmg.com/untouchablesce.shtml My biggest disappointment with the first was the poor sound quality (which the second review link thought was fine) and the lack of extras. If there's a chance of improved sound, and some good extras, I think I'll double dip on this one. Thanks for the reviews! |

I would think the problem with any DePalma dvd would be his lack of interest in doing a commentary. In fact, he refuses to watch any of his films once they're released.
there was a review of the new Region 2 version of Untouchables in the international forum. I think it mentioned the video was anamorphic, but the audio track remained the same.
Video was always anamorphic.
damn, maybe i shoudl have read this before I purchased this!

Originally posted by dfriend Me too. Even at $9-$10 on release day, it's not worth a double dip if picture and audio are the same. the dvdauthority review says new Dolby Digital EX audio. |
Yeah. Ex. And the sound mix still sucks. With these paramount releases, you always have to use the original Dolby Surround.
what is w/ the "no insert" and the funky case?
i almost broke it trying to open it before i realized that there are a couple of tabs to release. (i was trying to open it in the dim light of my home theater). for a special edition, it doesn't feel that special but it certainly explains the $10 price tag. |
DePalma has said that he's never been asked to do a commentary.
Those cases are becoming more and more common now, although I don't understand it. Those cases are downright horrible.
I don't mind the tabbed cases as long as they start getting rid of the security stickers.
The tabs can be easily snipped off with scissors. Then it's a normal keepcase.

I never bought the original release probably becasue at the time it was so damn expensive compared to other studios releases.
I may pick up this though since its a great film. |
Originally posted by djones6746 Exactly my reason for sticking with the original release. So far...I have not seen anything to make me change my mind. If a studio is going to release a movie for a second time, they should at least make it worthwhile for the consumer. |
I was at Costco yesterday and saw it for $8.79. Seemed like a good deal and I didn't already own it, so I picked it up.
I held off on buying this for a long time because I knew a Special Edition was coming. I guess I should have gone ahead and bought the regular edition, but oh well.
On the plus side, I only spent $8.50 -- I'm sure I would have spent at least twice that much if I had bought the original release a year or two ago. |
