Eternal Sunshine - Watch Out!

I bought this DVD last night and almost grabbed the Fullscreen version. The titles "Fullscreen" and "Widescreen" on the covers are small and almost disguised! The salesperson was even amazed.

Anyone buy the wrong copy?

Daytrip 09-29-04 02:26 PM

haven't picked my copy up yet, where is the fullscreen/widescreen located?

Duality 09-29-04 02:28 PM

It's...

located on the bottom right corner. Good luck.

On front cover, bottom right, in a blue banner.

I didn't even see that, but I did check the back. I wasn't so lucky when I picked up Remember the Titans earlier this week. I got FS and now I can't find the receipt.

It's easy. If the description in the parenthesis on Amazon.com says (Widescreen) - it's widescreen ;)

I'm surprised that people still aren't careful about checking their cases :) Me, i scan it all over like a kid with a new toy.

gutwrencher 09-29-04 06:06 PM

no problem. I thought that "widescreen" was easy to locate since it's right there on the cover. I always go over my buys with a fine toothed comb....checking for damage and all that. this includes taking just a few seconds to make sure I'm buying the right version/copy. I give myself time to shop...even though most of it is done on-line.:D

I just picked up a WS copy at Walmart in Simi Valley, CA for $15.87. I'm going to watch it as soon as I hit the "Submit" button.

The same thing happened to be at Best Buy yesterday. I didn't realize it until I was slicing the wrapper off at home. I did go back there and exchange it for a widescreen dvd without any problem, though.

Rockmjd23 09-29-04 10:41 PM

universal is horrible at distinguishing between widescreen and fullscreen. many times you can only tell by looking at the top.

onebyone 09-29-04 11:47 PM

I almost did this too. I caught it in the line and had to go back and switch. I would have been so mad had I gotten the dvd home and had the wrong one.

V-ism 09-30-04 04:35 AM

Crap! Back to Walmart I go....

steebo777 09-30-04 06:56 AM

As I always (and every DVD fanatic should) do, I look at the back for the specs to make sure it is widescreen.

I hate it when its not printed so one can actually read it without needing a magnifying glass!! I really look for the print now cuz I have had to take a few back myself.

Thanks for the heads-up!

My wife got this for me on Tuesday, and she bought the "Widescreen" edition. It wasn't by accident either. When she handed it to me, she said "Look, its the widescreen one!"

You ought to keep her! :D

I usually check carefully to make sure my movies are widescreen, but I was tired on tuesday and I guess I assumed that a smaller film of this sort would only be released in widescreen anyway. As I was walking out of Costco, I was looking at the DVD and saw the dreaded fullscreen banner. I went right back in and asked to exchange it and the clerk said I could just go back and grab the other one. There were only one or two widescreen copies in a sea of fullscreen. When I brought one back to customer service, it looked so much like the fullscreen copy, she thought that I hadn't been able to find one at first. Ugh. At least I noticed before I got home.

I always check the back to make sure everything I buy is anamorphic widescreen.

That is what almost got me. I usually check but I got careless because it was a small film and because all the Focus movies that I have were only released in Widescreen anyway. Add that to the fact they look so much alike and it is very possible to make a mistake on this one.

However, no one reading this thread will, so that is a plus. Learn from our mistakes.

Seriously, this simply shouldn't exist in "Full Frame".

happened to me as well -- looked at the back for the AR, saw 1.33, and then found the "full frame" on the front. i had not entertained the idea this would even be release in foolscreen.
