Episode I & II OOP?

I thought that Episode I and II were not in print. Is this true? There were a bunch at the best buy I went to yesterday when I picked up the trilogy. Have they been re-released or did they just have a stockpile?

dick_grayson 09-23-04 10:42 AM

anyone?

jarofclay73 09-23-04 10:44 AM

Probably just part of their deep inventory. OOP doesn't mean you can't find it at a store somewhere.

BLee 09-23-04 10:49 AM

are you trying to be funny?

Movie_Man 09-23-04 10:54 AM

Yes, it's technically OOP. Best Buy was selling a "limited inventory" to coincide with the original trilogy. I think they were priced at $23 - $25 each, which is hardly a bargain.

dick_grayson 09-23-04 11:00 AM

I was just wondering if they're a hot item, I suppose. I realize that regular oop dvds versus criterion oop dvds are completely different. Anyway, I shouldn't buy a few copies and sell them on ebay or hold onto them, though right?

Fok 09-23-04 11:04 AM

I wouldn't worry, I've seen lots around.

QuiGonJosh 09-23-04 11:35 AM

Supposedly...Episode 1 was supposedly to be rereleased Tues. with CG Yoda instead of Puppet Yoda...I couldnt find any at Wal Mart or anything so I will have to check CC tomorrow...

Where'd you hear this? I would think that news would be all over the various DVD sites, theforce.net, etc. And I would also think that pictures/video would have leaked months before (ala the original trilogy).

I can't imagine that's true.

Terrell 09-23-04 12:42 PM

I can't imagine that's true.
It is! Why not? Who wouldn't welcome this godawful puppet, which looks nothing like Yoda, be replaced? Not to mention, Yoda is not yellow.

I heard it from a guy who was one of the first who leaked the Trilogy Screenshots and DVD rips...

QuiGonJosh 09-23-04 02:46 PM

but it may just be something being done for the Uber boxset in 06 or 07...

Jackskeleton 09-23-04 03:09 PM

all the star wars dvds eventually got OOP... hell every dvd eventually goes that way. But the point is that there is enough out there to cover it for some time to come.

Disc-Flipper 09-23-04 04:10 PM

In ANH, there was supposed to be an Emperor hologram scene with Vader, Imperial March with Vader's first entrance, Qui-Gonn flashback during Obi-Wan's remembering of old friends, the dissolving of the senate scene with Bail Organa, the destruction of Alderaan from a surface view, fixed Ben's Hut lightsaber effects, fixed Luke training lightsaber effects, blah, blah, blah. Methinks more changes are in order for a bigger box set.

With those pics side-by-side, I never really knew how much difference there was between the two. Yeah, the puppet one needs to go.

movieking 09-23-04 07:38 PM

I have actually noticed that some people have complained about Ep I & II availability, and have seen certain ebay auctions go in the $20s and $30s for each DVD. I checked some online stores a while ago and they were either out of stock or had limited availability. No idea what the status is now though.

Terrell 09-24-04 12:56 AM

It is true?
I believe it was mentioned in one of the Hyperspace chats. Also, some of the ILM guys wanted to replace it with the CG Yoda from AOTC. As for reviews, they haven't changed it yet.

Fok 09-24-04 02:39 AM

The original puppet in ESB was pretty good, why didn't they use that in Ep1.

Jackskeleton 09-24-04 03:34 AM

because the puppet was suppose to be close to 30-40 years younger?

And the actual puppet itself was 15 years old, and probably not made of the world's greatest material.

I can't imagine that the age difference between 860 and 900 is really that great.

slowcloud 09-24-04 02:30 PM

Back on topic: You should be able to find used copies of Ep. 1 and 2 for cheap at any store that sells used DVDs. They're plenty around from people who really don't like these movies as much as the OT.

Terrell 09-24-04 02:50 PM

The original puppet in ESB was pretty good, why didn't they use that in Ep1.
It was very good. But it is also extremely fragile. So they scanned the head of the original ESB puppet, and used that for Episode II. They should have done the same thing for Episode I, but Lucas didn't think they could do one good enough in 1999, and he didn't want to take a chance of screwing up Yoda.

TPM Yoda puppet is a much more realistic and advanced puppet than the ESB puppet. But it just doesn't look like Yoda. He's yellow, has comastosed looking eyes, his face is not round enough, etc.
