Considering Lucasfilm CREATED Pixar, does this surprise anybody?

I think there's at least 1 year between ESB and ROTJ. In fact, a video game and comic called "Shadows of the Empire" was made (and approved by Lucas) to cover this period.

Here's the SW movies time gaps to my best knowledge:

Ep I

10 years

Ep II

3 years

Ep III

30 years

Ep IV

3 years

Ep V

1 year

Ep VI

Luke would be about 30 in Ep 4?

I guess so. In real life he was 26 in 1977. So about 30 sounds accurate.

Toad 09-22-04 01:41 PM

I always thought it was 20; 30 makes more sense.

I thought "Shadows of the Empire" was still only a 3-month time period.

I'm not sure but even so there was more stuff than Shadows of the Empire that took place between V and VI.

jough 09-22-04 03:29 PM

Wasn't Luke supposed to be like, 19 in the beginning of A New Hope? Just out of high school and having to hang back and work at home while his friends all left to pilot for the empire and go to college and stuff?

Judging from the way he whines about going to Toshi station to pick up some power converters, 19 seems a lot more likely than 26.

Spiky 09-23-04 10:44 AM

Luke was 18-20 at the beginning of ANH. The time difference between III and IV will depend on when he is born, no? Is it in III or just after or what? Whatever the answer, it won't be 30 years gap, closer to 20.

Josh H 09-23-04 11:11 AM

Yeah, Lucas is pretty screwed on this time continuity thing.

If it's 30 years, it doesn't work because there's no way Luke is 30 in ANH. If it's 20, it doesn't work because there's no way Obi Wan only aged 20 years between Ep 3 and 4.

30 years sounds logical. If Obi Wan is 30 in ep I, he's 40 in ep II, and 70 in ep IV.

Luke could be a sheltered 30 year old in ep IV.

I can't buy Obi Wan as 30 in Ep I or Luke as 30 in ep IV.

They're both around 20 IMO, as they both just look and act too young to be 30 and Obi Wan was clearly young as he was a Padawan in Ep. 1.

Thus he's 30 in Ep II, 33 in Ep III, and 53 or 63 in Ep IV depending on whether it's 20 or 30 years.

63 is somewhat plausible, but then you have Luke at 30 which isn't.

QuanTum 09-23-04 02:00 PM

Fucking thread jackers! This is the official WE HATE JAR JAR thread. Who gives a shit how old Luke is or how many years passed between this and that. Talk about that somewhere else.

Jar Jar is lame.

;)

Class316 09-23-04 02:17 PM

I guess we shall never know if it's truly Jar Jar.

There's no reason to think it is, but there's no reason to think it isn't.

Luke may have had A.D.D. and been held back a few grades. Or the force may have been eating at him causing him to not pay attention in class. Ya know kinda like when ya first discover masturbation and can't wait for the next private moment. It can ruin your concentration.

Getting back to Jar Jar,

If Jar Jar was a Jedi apprentice and the way he blatantly butchers up ebonics, would he call Yoda, Massa Yoda?

sinister 09-24-04 01:13 AM

I always thought obi-wan was 20 in episode 1 also and 30 in Attack of the clones, it was disussed to death at the star wars message boards. no way luke is thirty in a new hope. obi wan should of been kicking tail in a new hope being in his fifties still or early sixties. I know count dooku is good but obi wan was powered down in ep. II, that fight should of been alot longer.

jough 09-25-04 10:31 PM

Do we really know how much time takes place between episodes II and III yet, though?

Obviously there's only 19 years between Luke's birth and A New Hope - but Obi-Wan should be about 10-20 years older than he would be if we see Luke and Leia born in Ep. III.

Or maybe Obi-Wan just didn't age well. ;)

Iron_Giant 09-26-04 02:12 AM

I cannot remember which movie it was in, but C3PO did say "How rude" just like Jar Jar he did in Star Wars I, it even sould just like Jar Jar.

darkside 09-26-04 12:30 PM

The time thing is screwed up on this unless Obi Wan is 40 in episode III. Only thing I know for sure is Jar Jar sucks.

Terrell 09-26-04 02:32 PM

There was a 10 year time span between TPM and AOTC. There is a 3 year time span between AOTC and ROTS. There is a two decade time span between ROTS and Star Wars.
