My Own Private Idaho?
Is it ever coming out?
And what about MALA NOCHE? Plexifilm was supposed to release it ages ago. |
Strong rumors Criterion will be releasing it next year.

Plexifilm have Mala Noche on their to be released schedule, so I doubt Criterion will be getting it.

Is on DVD in Australia but it's no better than VHS.

I've been wondering the same thing. I figure it won't be too long since "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" is finally coming out (now I won't have to ask my friends to look for it on their trip to France).

This is one of my faves!
I know it was released on DVD in Austrailia (4:3), it boasts a horrifying transfer, don't go anywhere near it! I own that and the Laserdisc version, which is in Widescreen format. This film, along with 1492: Conquest of Paradise, The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Leaving Las Vegas, in my top 5 films of the 1990's. All of them except this, and 1492 are on DVD. This film along with 1492: Conquest Of Paradise, are insanely due for a DVD release, they are both amazing films. River Phoenix, who I sorely miss in film, is absolutely amazing in My Own Private Idaho, this is quite a haunting performance, by an actor that had so much more to give to film. May he rest in peace, and may Hollywood finally release this film on DVD. I swear, it's all ridiculous with Hollywood. They put all this crap on DVD, Special Editions, etc. yet brilliant artistic visions like My Own Private Idaho, and 1492 are overlooked. What are they thinking? It's sad. |

I asked the same question in another thread once, (maybe a year or so ago), I would love to see Criterion do this one.

Darn it, I forgot to add The Truman Show along with, this and 1492: COP, Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, and Leaving Las Vegas in, what is now, my top 6 favorite films of the 90's. Notice no lame movies are listed there. :) All Criterion Collection worthy, so to speak. They put Armageddon (however you spell it) on the Criterion DVD line. 1492 should be a title they should consider for that line. Oh, and of course, Gus Van Sant's work of art, My Own Private Idaho. The Truman Show, would be a welcome edition as well, also Leaving Las Vegas. Criterion might be overated though! Man though, if the studios that distributed these films aren't going to acknowledge them and so something special, that's where Criterion comes in, so I guess it serves a very good purpose for the DVD junkie. |
