Anyone else planning on getting rid of their "Return of the Jedi" DVD?

I never liked this movie and don't feel I need it as part of my DVD library. I plan on ebaying it to reduce the cost of my trilogy set. I'll probably ditch the documentary too (after I watch it).

I must agree, I've never understood the ROTJ haters. Also, selling the doc, yeah....

Bacon 09-15-04 02:07 PM

NO WAY!!!!!!!!

duy37 09-15-04 02:08 PM

and who buy just that one?

Red Dog 09-15-04 02:09 PM

No way.

El-Kabong 09-15-04 02:15 PM

So, do you rip the last hundred or so pages out of the ends of your books too?

If this is a threadcrap, then so be it - but this is the stupidest idea I've ever seen, this is the lamest thread I've ever had this misfortune to read, and I feel stupider for just being here.

Josh H 09-15-04 02:16 PM

Nope, it's my fave of the three.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard - sure, Jedi's the weakest of the 3, but if you like the other two, you should still like Jedi, if not, then you're just being a contrary jerk.

Green Jello 09-15-04 02:21 PM

Geez, if your that hard up for cash, I'll give you the amount you'll get for it on eBay just so you can keep it and not ruin the set. ;)

Husker 09-15-04 02:22 PM

As Kramer would say, "That is whacky talk!"

(The sequels) are a by-product, apologises Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz, of an original story conceived as a single film - not a six-film saga. "That touches on the convoluted story structure of the three films," he says. "I don't think you should try and investigate it too seriously."

Anyone hate Godfather III? It's the same thing.

munedaddy 09-15-04 02:25 PM

If not for the Ewoks this would have been good too. I suppose it is still fine for a kid movie. There had to be a letdown after the brilliant Empire strikes back. Yeah I think the big teddy bears are the only problem I had with the third. You could get by with only having the first movie but there would be too many loose ends if you did not watch both 2 and 3. Favorite of the 3 though, you are definitely in the minority. Check the reviews.

TylerDurden_73 09-15-04 02:30 PM

As much as I dislike Jedi, It's part of a trilogy. So I still watch it.

GuyverX 09-15-04 02:35 PM

Dumbest....thread....ever. Okay, maybe not, but it's up there. -screwy-

planetaire 09-15-04 02:37 PM

You do what you like. You think ROTJ sucks, sell it. A New Hope seems to be just fine on its own. But if you step into Empire territory, you'll need ROTJ to flesh the story out. Though all things considered, you probably should have kept the idea of breaking up your trilogy to yourself. :)

I award you no points,...and may God have mercy on your soul.

ROTJ was a feel-good movie designed to sell toys to children. After seeing it, I felt disappointed and cheated. I'll listen to the ROTJ's commentaries and probably never watch the DVD again (until it shows up again in my Blu-Ray version of the trilogy in a couple more years).

That's one reason why I'm not buying this set. (I picked up the 5-Star set, and sold ROTJ for the price I paid for the trilogy) The same reason why I haven't bought Indy or Back to the Future.

ROTJ is really a sad excuse for a film. I call it "Return of the Tedi" (as in Teddy bear). The freakin Empire taken out of the game by a bunch of animated teddy bears using rocks and sharp sticks.

Oh, "another death star"?! Yeah, THAT's original.

I don't expect the fanboys to understand that there are some of us (granted, a very small minority) that judge each film on their own merits.

If ROTJ were actually a cohesive and planned extension of the "A New Hope" story, then I would keep it for the sake of having the entire story. But it is obvious to me that ROTJ was an afterthought.

Kal-El 09-15-04 02:45 PM

Not me. Jedi is still the quintessential Space Battle Movie of all time. I doubt even the rumored
Spoiler:
opening sequence of Episode III
could top it. Add the Vader/Luke duel at the end, Original Jabba and Princess Leia in the slave girl bikini, it's hard not to see why some have it as their favorite. I feel bad for people who let the Ewoks ruin all that for them. :D

Personally, I don't think it matters what the films are. They could be a set of Care Bears videos. In my opinion, if you need to go through the time and hastle to sell ROTJ on eBay just to get some money back, maybe you shouldn't be buying the $50 set in the first place.

Are you sure you're serious here? This isn't some kind of joke troll thread?

Toad 09-15-04 02:56 PM

I am not planning on selling ROTJ and the thought would never cross my mind. It may not be a masterpiece (this is SW we're talking about, not Dumb and Dumber....), but it is the final chapter in a 6-part series that I want to retain.
