#3*.

Don't like the "bling" or BIG head photochop of the first.

Liked the font for #3 better than #2.

* Unless that's not the theatrical poster, which should be used at every given opportunity - unless you can create a cover withOUT using BIG heads..

BDub 09-15-04 11:38 AM

I think the "dead space" in #2 and #3 are supposed to draw attention to the grill smoke which rises up to the title.

Not that it works, just a possible explanation.

vote for cover #3. But I would take off all the people and just leave the grill. None of the stars really sells the film. A lone grill smoking , lures the consumer to pick it up and read the back. Also please lose the woman with the gun. Enough of that already! I know its in the movie, but lets not try to fool anybody. Appealing to the young crowd with Hey look its Queen Latifah playing a gun weilding cool cop!!! Try something different for a change. Think of how great it will look. Nice blue sky, green grass. plain but intriguing.

#3

#1

Because the other ones had white people on the covers.

mjlukich 09-16-04 12:01 PM

Well, I haven't seen the film, but I voted for cover #3. I liked the title font, and the open space in the middle does draw you in. I think #1 looks like every other slapstick/ensemble cast/comedy DVD cover.

FredC 09-16-04 12:53 PM

I had a hard time choosing one also as none of them really was particularly good. I liked the Bling ball on #1 but there were too many big heads and I liked the title font design in #3 but the people lined up didn't do anything for me.

Big Worms 09-16-04 01:29 PM

#1 The other two have two much empty space in the middle.

Movie_Man 09-16-04 03:33 PM

Maybe I'm just out of touch, but I never even heard of this film, and none of those covers would entice me to want to rent it either.
That said, I voted for #1.

I voted for #3 as well. I'll take any chance to vote against big head syndrome on dvd covers. between #2 and #3, I picked #3.

People, this is just a marketing ploy for more Hollywood dreck: "Vote for the cover of The Cookout on DVD. Go see the movie in theaters now!" The first choice is the obvious one they would have gone for-- it has glitter in it. The other's look unfinished and rough-- obvious rejects.

molecularman 09-17-04 04:16 PM

I like #1 but with the glitterless and bbq-less font in #2

hgar78 09-18-04 09:19 AM

chose #2. to me, i like the off-kilter look and the space adds something not seen on other covers...

Invader_Rik 09-18-04 07:08 PM

I originaly sided with #1 with the logo from #3 too, but in the end I'm gonna' have to go with #3 as is.

thejammy 09-18-04 09:55 PM

#3 because of the logo of the movie with the bbq grill. I like the lineup of the characters. #1 was way too crowded.

Holly E. Ordway 09-18-04 10:48 PM

#3. I haven't seen the movie, and #3 is the only cover that would get me to actually pick it up off the shelf and look more closely. It avoids the "crammed generic comedy look" of #1, the open space in the does lead the eye up to the title, and the lettering of the title is really cute. The little grill for the "O" - I love it!

Bill Geiger 09-19-04 02:14 AM

At first I was leaning towards #3...but I agree about the empty space. Also, having Danny Glover almost out of focus is a shame.

ProjectMayhem 09-19-04 11:34 AM

I went with the second one.

The first has too much bling. The third has a two-grill overkill going on. I apologize for making that rhyme. Anyways, the font for the title sucks for it too.

I still think the second is the cleanest and best one there. Although, it's not too good...

Mr. Clops 09-19-04 06:46 PM

I went with #1. The biggest problem, in my opinion, with 2 and 3 is that the attention is supposed to be on the grill in the middle and most of the cast seems to be crammed along the sides; the middle is confusing (since there's really nothing but space and nothing to draw attention to the grill) and the photos being mashed along the sides makes it look like the studio only thinks that the film will sell if potential buyers know that there's a bunch of black people all over the cover. The first one has a bit of the big head thing going on, but it's laid out much more sensibly and seems to have a better overall vibe to it.

Ditto

El-Kabong 09-20-04 03:44 AM

Can I vote for option 4: the "I'd rather pay someone 6 bucks to punch me in the face for an ahour and a half than even think about watching this movie" cover?

I'll be blunt - the covers reflect exactly how much ass this movie is going to suck. The covers suck major ass, the movie will most likely suck major ass.

*Edit* Yikes - Danny Glover is in this? Man, I hope he managed to recover whatever the hell the producers blackmailed him with.

All three look like something I'd find in the bargain bin at Sav-On.

Shouldn't this thread be in the cover art forum?

Big Worms 11-04-04 05:22 PM

Well #1 is the one they went with.

They dropped the "bling" and changed Eve though, so they didn't use any of them! :-)
