The Village

Does anyone out there have any information as to when "The Village" is due to be released on DVD? I'm assuming it's got a release date prior to the end of the year, but I haven't heard anything else.

Any help?

Thanks,

Mub

Sure. Just a word to the wise: When asking a question, use a question mark in your thread title so people don't get pissed off when they click it thinking they will read an announcement of a release date.

TriciaJ 09-13-04 04:56 PM

I heard that it is supposed to be released sometime in december.

Word to live by.

I would guess early January, that's what Buena Vista did with Signs, which was released theatrically around the same time of year.

The title got me excited as well. I was hoping the thread was about The Village never coming to DVD. Oh well.

Your originality astounds me.

To the original poster...USE A QUESTION MARK PLEASE.

 Why do people whine about question marks?

Because some people are still on dial-up and the 47 seconds it takes to load the page only to find out it's a question thread and not an info thread is frustrating. :D

I can sort of understand that. But, those people decide to spend their time on a message board so I don't think they can complain too much.

Jackskeleton 09-13-04 07:18 PM

Point is without a question mark you assume that there is info about the release of it. It's anticlimactic to actuall open the thread and see that it's just someone else like yourself who is wondering about the information.

When there is information about a release out there, it will be posted.

indeed

Jackskeleton 09-13-04 07:34 PM

That goes the same with thread titles that are written like this

"Hey guys, look at this wonderful news..........."

Thread titles should be as clear to what the subject will be about to save time on wasted clicks.

That is usually an indication of yet another Star Wars thread.

zak52 09-13-04 07:52 PM

I agree with what you said Jack. But, was it really that upsetting that there wasn't a date yet? As for wasted clicks, how can someone complain about that being on a message board?

OK, here is what I've heard -- The Village was set for a release over the New Year's weekend (like Signs). However then it was discovered that (If you haven't seen the movie don't read this!)
Spoiler:
we are actually all living in the 1800s and DVD doesn't exist!
SCARY!

And why do people complain about what other people complain about?

The mods have made it clear on an alomst daily basis that you're supposed to use a question mark in the thread title when you're asking a question. It's fucking annoying when people don't.

Nagheenanajar 09-14-04 06:50 AM

I wonder if this will be a Vista Series or have they done away with that line? There hasn't been a Vistas Series since Who Framed Roger Rabbit in March '03.

On topic, there isn't a sniff of information on any site that I can fnid about a potential date. I would think it would have been announced by now if it was making it's appearance pre-Christmas.

I'm hoping for another Vista Series release and that it has the Sci-Fi special on it as an extra.

Where was I complaining? If you didn't notice, I was laughing about it.
BTW, cry me a river. crying about a question mark.

Village is doing ok. Cost $65 million to make and $40 million to promote. To date it has brought in $112+ million (domestically) and still going. I don't imagine the studio is disappointed with its performance.

Jackskeleton 09-14-04 11:15 AM

I think the main reason why THE VILLAGE was a let down was because it was suppose to be one of the few titles for buena vista that was suppose to make up for the other flicks of theirs that totally flopped. It's drop from week 1 and week 2 was pretty huge. Not HULK huge, but huge none the less.

Either way it will make a lot on dvd.

zak52 09-14-04 01:09 PM

Jack, did the Village make it's money back? I really liked the movie but, I'll admit it was a little let down. I still definately plan on picking up the DVD.

Toad 09-14-04 02:12 PM

It's made over $110 million I think; if it cost more than that I'd be shocked to hell.

Nefarious 09-14-04 02:48 PM

Doesn't anyone read my posts!?!? :(

As I said, $65m to make, $40m to promote, earned $112m+ domestically, and $63m+ worldwide. Earned roughly $70m at this point.

Figures taken from www.boxofficemojo.com

Crocker Jarmen 09-14-04 02:54 PM

$65 million to make? Does M. Knight get a $30 million dollar fee or something? One location, no special effects... a low budget filmmaker could have made this sort of film.

Nefarious 09-14-04 02:57 PM

Not exactly A-list star power that would demand 10-15 million either. That figure surprised me too and I don't know where BOM gets their data.

gbub 09-14-04 03:53 PM

According to the production notes, they built the entire town in the movie. I'd guess that's where the bulk of the money went.

Also, didn't some of the cast members work for quite a bit less than their usual fee?

js097 09-15-04 11:11 PM

god what a dud of a movie.

Response to Mr. Salty (?)

Mr. Salty, I don't even need the use of a question mark here. I asked a question that only an idiot would have a problem with. Apparently, you had no answer to that question, so the only thing you could come up with in your empty world was your "word to the wise."

Mr. Salty, you're a JACKASS (EXCLAMATION POINT!!)

1. You need to use a question mark in the thread title, for the reasons indicated in my original post and the posts of others in this thread, so people don't click into the thread thinking you're offering information instead of looking for information.

2. Pay attention to what the moderators have added to your thread title.

3. My original post was politely worded, so consider growing a thicker skin.

4. Personal attacks are against forum rules. Watch yourself or you won't be around here long.

That was absolutely uncalled for and it clearly a violation of the forum rules.
