Ice Cream Man DVD Release

In the new Video Store Magazine, there is an ad for the DVD release of Ice Cream Man, starring Clint Howard. The ad is from Ardustry Home Entertainment. There is information on the company's website about the release. Apparently, the DVD will street Oct. 19. Anybody no anything else about this release and/or company?

haha i remember this flick.. its like 7.99 or 9.99 or something on amazon i believe.. ill be picking this one up

asianxcore 09-08-04 01:44 PM

amazon has the company listed as Ardustry Home Entertainment, October 19th release.

I remember seeing a big feature on this movie a long long time ago in an issue of Fangoria. Looked fun, might pick it up.

Ice Cream Man is a personal passion of yours truly, so I'm sad to say the disc's indeed a no-thrills release by Ardustry Entertainment (which aquired the rights to the A-Pix catalog when that company went belly up).

DVDTalk honcho Geoff Kleinman and myself have lobbied for more than two years on behalf of the flick. We've repeatedly offered to share in the production costs of a special edition. But the have been put off and put off and finally turned down face-to-face at VSDA earlier this year. Geoff really worked every angle, so it wasn't from lack of effort.

Not to twist the knife, but when I personally talked to Clint Howard, he was thrilled about the prospect of recording a commentary.

HA! - a very good friend of mine is the producer of this dvd. He was just telling me about it the other day, basically making fun of it, saying what a trashy movie it is. The extras aren't up to him, though - he just does what the studio tells him to - he basically just broke it up into chapters and made the menus.

Next on his to-do list: Greatest American Hero!

I guess the "I know a guy" contribution is what lifts this above a thread crap?

slop101 09-11-04 01:22 PM

Jeeze - I haven't even seen the movie myself - I was just repeating what he told me, just so you'd get an idea of what some of the people that work on these discs actually think about some of your favorite movies. FWIW, this guy does not understand the appeal of horror movies and how they can be entertaining - to him, if it's not Citizen Kane (or a "well-made" film with high production values), it's crap - so there you go.

I saw a guy in the Suncoast Video in Burbank this afternoon who I was sure was Clint. He was talking to one of the employees there and I tried to get a better look at him. I ended up buying something in line behind him and making a positive ID. When I heard him and the clerk talking about "Ice Cream Man" I had to jump in and tell him how excited I was about the release. He apologized that it was being done with no extras "on the cheap". We talked about it briefly before he left. He seemed happy to stumble across a fan of the movie. I was so surprised by the chance conversation that I couldn't think of the name of any of his other movies that I liked.

Anyway, he was very down-to-earth and approachable.

Completely. Clint's the best. Wrote to thank me for my Evilspeak ode just yesterday and we'll be chatting about Ice Cream Man for an upcoming column!

HOW DOES CLINT HOWARD KEEP GETTING WORK?!?!?

HOW DOES CLINT HOWARD KEEP GETTING WORK?!?!?
Because Clint Howard is one of the coolest motherfuckers working in Hollywood. That's why.

And it's a shame that the Ice Cream Man DVD is going to be bare-bones. :(

matome 09-22-04 06:42 PM

This looks like a movie I have to blind buy on premise alone!

asianxcore 09-22-04 06:50 PM

wasn't the original picture of Clint holding the ice cream in his hand much gorier? or was that something else? I just remember in a picture of Fangoria a long time ago, that same picture but with blood all over stacks and stacks of ice cream, with eyeballs in it.

Yep, Ardustry went with the softer of two versions of the VHS artwork.

I didn't know there were two different cuts. Which one is Ardustry releasing?

That's unclear. I'd have to double check my library, but I recall the difference in covers also carried a difference in running time. So there's the possibility I misspoke by saying Rated/Unrated.

cajun_junky 09-23-04 02:43 PM

Man this is great news. I personally saw the movie a long time ago and loved it.

Unfortunately it looks like Ardustry is on strike two with the R rated cover and no commentary.

I like the interview and I was actually talking with a friend of mine about this movie the over day. I'll be picking up the DvD and might even get it as a christmas gift.

emhello 11-25-04 06:18 PM

Never seen this. I love cheap-ass horror movies like Killer Klowns, Dead Alive, and Leprechaun though. How does this movie compare with some of those?

asianxcore 11-25-04 09:01 PM

anyone been able to find this in any B&M stores? since it's release date I haven't seen it around. really want to pick this one up.
