Is the release of Star Wars a major DVD milestone?
This isnt a debate of who likes or dislikes the movies or what is or is not on them. BUT do you think that thier release on Sept 21st is a MAJOR DVD milestone? I realize that there are MANY movies that are still not on DVD for one reason or another but I think that the mainstream has been clamoring for these movies on DVD for a long time. And the whole thing with George Luca$ basically not wanting to put them out for years was really disapointing.
Many movies are released and re-released every week but once in awhile a movie comes out that is just BIG! In my opinion this is one of them if not THE biggest for me. Sure Indiana Jones was big and Disneys big releases are almost guarenteed now but I cant wait to have Star Wars, even if I still have to keep my VHS tapes for the original version and original special edition versions!!! |
Yes. Star Wars is a huge franchise and important movies to cinema history. At least, the originals were important, no comment about the SEs...
|
Of course. Don't see how anyone can say it isn't.

I said "NO" because DVD is the new format for watching movies. It is now the standard. So, Star Wars on DVD should naturally be expected. What WOULD BE a milestone is if the originals (non special edition) came to DVD. Now that WOULD be a milestone.

what ceeece said!!

Love 'em or hate 'em, this question shouldn't even be asked. But I voted YES! And people who'll be voting no are just doing it out of spite and to irk the fans.
|
I say YES too, despite the new stuff, the old films are still there in some form.
|
It is a milestone for me because it is the last must-have movie that I want that had not been released in some form of R1 DVD.
|
It maybe considered a milestone because its taken so long for them to be released on DVD.
|
For years it's been the most talked about and anticipated Trilogy yet to released on DVD - definitely a milestone. Can't wait!
|
I don't know if it's a milestone...it's more of an "it's about time!"
If the DVD offered some new ground-breaking feature, then it would be a milestone. But seriously I think the Alien Quadrilogy was more of a "Milestone" than the Star Wars release - not because the movies are better, but just because of what the package had to offer fans. |

"Paging Mr. Rivero for your eminent thread crap.
Mr. Rivero, please report to the new Star Wars thread immediately." ;) |
No. The format is already so well established that a single release hardly represents a "milestone" any longer. Moreover, while this should be a top-notch DVD set, among the best of the year in terms of DVD technology, it's not a unique or revolutionary use of the technology. And, finally, the poor quality of the first two films of the prequel trilogy have taken some of the lustre off the original trilogy, fairly or not.
Had this come out a couple of years ago, then milestone for sure. |
Dual-layer discs and seamless branching were DVD milestones. Movies are too subjective. I don't like Star Wars, so the Indy Jones Trilogy would be my "milestone", so, no.
|
Hell yes. I've had a player since 1998 and this has been my most anticipated release (and many others as well) since day one.

Regardless of what the dozen or so people who hate Star Wars (yet, can't stop talking about it) will say.. this is huge.
|
I know you don't want to go into what is and what isn't in the film, but that's the key issue to many people, and to me.
Original films released to dvd = milestone Special Edition films released to dvd = not a milestone in the least Since it's the craptacular Special Editions that are being released, I voted no. |

Been waiting for these movies on DVD more than anything out now or in the future.
