Alien Nation TV series?
I was updating my DVD Profiler when I noticed they had a listing on the series of Alien Nation. I never heard of this coming out in DVD but it contained UPC codes. This show only had 1 season 23 shows and 5 movies. I believe this may be through Columbia House. Does anyone know if they plan to do the entire series?

I don't know if they plan to do a box set but you can get all of the episode's through Columbia House. It's more than a bit pricy but you do get all of them.
|
How much do these go for, new or used, if you can find them?
|
I liked the original movie of Alien Nation, but I didn't care all that much about the series. Different production values, basically. Alien make-up was different or something.
|
Most people I've asked actually like the series more than the movie. I don't even remember which one I like best.

I don't remember watching the movie, but I did enjoy the TV show a good deal.

I have been thinking for the longest time that this series would be put together in a proper DVD set, including all of the movies possibly, considering how few episodes aired.
I'm actually shocked at the number of episodes. I thought there were a lot more than that. If anyone who reads this thread knows how much the discs from CH run, new or used, please let me know, thanks. |
Well, you can get the first one (with the pilot movie and one or two other episodes, I think) for a cheap introductory rate (varies from anywhere between 99 cents and 4 dollars, depending on the offer, plus postage). I don't know how much future volumes are, but if "The Carol Burnett Show" is anything to go by (I subscribe to that one), you're looking at between $17-20 per disc.
the Alien Nation discs, from what I've been able to discover, contain something like three or four episodes per disc (I think it's usually four), so although not a tremendous value (compared to retail TV set), you get more material for your money on those than I'm getting for Carol Burnett Show (of course, that's probably due to music rights royalty payments, but we'll not even go into that). I was tempted to subscribe to Alien Nation, but I convinced myself that the show had enough of a following to get a retail release at some point. Also, I thought I heard rumblings some time ago that Fox were looking into releasing this, but I don't remember where (maybe TVShowsOnDVD). |
Wow, I started this in 2004 and forgot all about it. I still want the TV show and all the movies. I loved the TV show and do have the origional movie but the TV series got more into the everyday problems the aliens had fitting into society. I simply will not pay what they are currently asking. Reminds me of when Highlander first came to DVD via their site. They asked for double what you can get the season sets for now.

The movie was only average - the TV series (from "The Incredible Hulk" and "V" creator Ken Johnson) was fantastic.
I have all the episodes on DVD from Columbia House - although I'm not sure if they offer it anymore. Sadly, none of the TV movies is available on DVD - although a few were released on VHS. Kind of a bummer, since the TV series ends with a cliffhanger and the first TV movie, "Dark Horizons" resolved it. Fortunately, I have all the TV movies on videotape from their original airings. BTW, each of the DVDs contain three episodes...except for the first one, which I think just has the 2-hour pilot and "Fountain Of Youth". |
How is the picture quality of the Columbia House discs?

The episodes come in slimcase packaging...I remember wishing Columbia House had provided a cardboard slip case to keep them all in. |
