Terminator SE Audio Change

Did anyone else notice that the sound of the Terminators gun (the pistol with the laser sight) was different on the DVD than on the original movie? Why did they change the sound of the gun? Also in the police station when the Terminator is pulling the power cables they took out the ricochet sound.

Yes. This is all discussed on the DVD itself.

The SE has a completely remixed 5.1 soundtrack with new sound effects, which is discussed on the disc. The DVD also contains the original theatrical audio track with the old sound effects.

Yep, as the original track is a DD 2.0 Mono track. I once tried to go back to listen to it, and I just couldn't. Once you hear the remixed 5.1 track, you almost can't go back to the original mono.

Well I don't own the DVD so I did not get to see the special features but thank you for helping out on this one. I will have to get that and watch the features.

Actually I found it VERY easy to go to the original mono mix. Since that sounds awsome, intense and loud with alot of energy and tension throughout.

So remember mono does not mean 'subpar' or 'bad'.

The remixed track on the other hand sounds like crap. I much prefer the BANG of the gunfire in mono, than the bleep silencer effects of the 5.1 :D

After spending $2,000 on my dual SVS subwoofers, I like to have an LFE track when I can. Dolby Prologic 2 does send LFE to my subs but its not the same as a dedicated LFE channel.

There's a DTS version available in Japan, if you're region-free, FYI.

And screw those black bars on movies too! They cover up the top and bottom!

The main title music was redone for the 5.1 track as well.

Yea no kidding, I can only assume you guys spent 2 grand so that you could accurately recreate the soundtrack. This is a murky issue, and it boils down to the personal preference of the viewer, but 'i didn't pay 2 Gs' is a lousy reason to listen to the 5.1 track over the mono. Prefering the new mix is one thing, blindly deciding more channels = better sound 100% of the time, is different.

Personally, 5.1 remix is one thing, redoing the sound fx completely is another beast. I'm just really glad they gave us the original so we can choose.

I spent $2K. I want the sound to fill all of my speakers!

;)
