Perfect Blue - New DVD?
I love the anime film Perfect Blue, but have held off on buying the disc because it's not anamorphic. The disc is also several years old. Do any anime fans here know of a possible new disc on the way, or should I just buy the existing one? Thanks!

Buy the existing DVD. The chance of Manga Ent doing a decent re-release is slim at best. Aside from the fact that there has been no news about a re-release: This is the company who continually promise first releases of popular back catalogue titles in the not-too-distant future, and fail to deliver. The company who has yet to do a new release of a DVD that had major video problems, or any kind of recall, or even a decent explanation of the problem. The company who has some kind of defect, major or minor, with practically every DVD they release. The company who is so incapable of putting existing DVDs in a box that the Evangelion movie box set has been delayed for over two years!
Manga Entertainment: Redefining incompetence. |
koreandvds.com says the Region 3 version is anamorphic/DD5.1 and has English subtitles. If playing R3 discs is an option, that might be your best bet.
With Manga under new management, there might be an R1 re-release one of these days, but I wouldn't hold your breath. |
Well that sucks. I'm not too surprised, though. Thanks for the info!

Wasn't Anchor Bay itself recently bought out by another company?

Re: Perfect Blue - New DVD?
Just got a used copy of this. From what I've read, Darren Aronofsky owns the rights to the movie after purchasing them a decade ago to replicate a scene in REQUIEM FOR A DREAM. With some of the recent finger pointing that he borrowed elements of the movie for BLACK SWAN, I'd say the chances of a re-release are slim to none.
