The Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection 10/19

Just found this article from Variety.com at this link from yahoo:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...in_warner_dvds

It seems that all are previously released movies ecxcept the 2 documentaries "Persona Non Grata" and "Looking For Fidel". It will also include the MGM titles "Platoon:SE" and "Salvador:SE" and a ticket for "ALexander". The price doesn't look that bad since it would probably retail for less than $100.

PopcornTreeCt 08-26-04 10:14 PM

Wow, I really wish the studios would focus on releasing movies that aren't on DVD yet.

Tarantino 08-26-04 10:22 PM

I've already got all the Stone movies that I want.

No thanks.

Adrenaline 08-26-04 10:30 PM

I'm still waiting for Nixon and The Doors to be released in anamorphic.

Julie Walker 08-26-04 11:10 PM

It would be nice if they got the rights back for NBK:uncut and give it a 16.9 treatment.

I won't bother with the set either. Since it would be awaste buying films I already own..when I could save more by buying the few that I don't have yet individually.

AnonomusBob15 08-26-04 11:15 PM

Having not picked up the last set, there is not way i'll not be picking this one up.

I wonder if this will contain the new JFK disc and the new BOTFOJ dvd.

ruk 08-27-04 09:20 AM

does anyone know whether this will have all new SE's except for JFK

We've just posted the artwork here

Sweet cover. MSRP is only $129.99 plus a free ticket for Alexander, that's a great deal.

ruk 08-30-04 08:53 PM

how many total dvd's are there, including all 2 disc sets, i wonder if columbia house will carry this, they have not before

Dr. DVD 08-30-04 08:54 PM

Meh. Don't need it.

Mike Lowrey 08-30-04 08:55 PM

The only discs I'd want out of that set would be Salvador, JFK, Heaven and Earth and perhaps Nixon. I've already got the Platoon SE. Alexander is the only one that I'm definately getting beit a historical epic.

Josh-da-man 08-30-04 09:16 PM

The only Oliver Stone DVD I own is the NBK DC, so this looks like a good deal for me.

I have to wonder what kind of packaging this will come in. The article says a "14-disc DVD collector's set featuring 12 of Oliver Stone's movies," and that box in the DVDAnswers link looks too small to contain that many discs. So are we looking at keepcases, snappers, a fold-out digipak, or a "Godfather"-style digipak?

Does this mean that some of the two-disc sets (JFK, Doors, AGS, Nixon) won't include the bonus discs? Because, by the description, it sounds like it'll have to be a minimum of 18 or 19 discs to include all of the bonus materials.

Need answers...

Geofferson 08-30-04 09:56 PM

I'm out.

Me too. I have half the films in the collection so it's a pointless purchase.

BREAKING NEWS

(AP) Washington, D.C. - The Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection has been mysteriously postponed, says a source within Oliver Stone's agency. "However," the unnamed source said, "Mr. Stone will be filming a movie about this situation in 2005."

natevines 08-31-04 12:02 AM

Nice set, but I only like 2-3 movies of Stone's. He's not a particularly great director...

ENDContra 08-31-04 03:16 AM

Hmmm...I have probably half of those films and already have Born on the Fourth of July on my Half.com listings since the new one is supposed to be anamorphic. I would be interested in keepcases of Any Given Sunday and Natural Born Killers, as well as Nixon if its anamorphic. Otherwise Im not that interested in getting this set, so hopefully there will be individual releases as well.

Amen to that.

Legolas 10-12-04 05:52 PM

Anyone know what differences there are between this set and the original Oliver Stone box set? Besides the added movie, that is. Is the Born on the Fourth of July the SE one? Otherwise, is everything else the same?

Plastic or cardboard DVD cases?

Yeah, he's only won TWO Oscars for Best Director (and another for Best Screenwriter). What a hack.

Beware the two-disc "Any Given Sunday"; the second disc (like the old SE of 'JFK') is stuck in a little plastic sleeve and shoved into a fold-out inside the snapper case. It's really bad.

The original Stone set did not have 'Salvador' or 'Platoon'. The original had two-disc versions of 'The Doors', 'JFK', 'Nixon', and 'Any Given Sunday'. [Note that there has been a better two-disc 'JFK' released since then.] The new set has a new version of 'Born on the Fourth of July' and an exclusive 14th disc with the two HBO docs Stone did.

Plastic or cardboard DVD cases?
No, they're two fold-out things holding seven discs each. (Seriously.)

Dr. DVD 10-13-04 10:43 AM

Any reviews of this yet?

jmj713 10-13-04 04:18 PM

So definitely none of the second discs? Then they can keep it.
